I know this forum is for reviewing software and hardware but i would definately like to post a review about a certain computer retailer in the region of Lonavala. If the admin/mods think that this post is not approprite they may please move this to an appropriate section, as i thought that this was the best sction to post it.

I won't be reviewing this certain shop (name of shop : 'Prompt Computers', location : 'Lonavala, Maharashtra - about 100 kms from Bombay') in a traditional wa , but i would like to recite a few incidents and let you all guys form your own opinion.

1. We needed to purchase a USB to Serial bridge for our engineering porject. Now this thingy is priced at about 50-100 bcks at any Laminton shop. But we needed this pronto, so we decided to go to the only decent computer shop in Lonavala - Prompt. The price he offers - 400 bucks. Delivery time - one day. Now after taking the delivery, we notice that the driver CD is missing. All the receptionists dont know a dammed thing about it, so we have to wait for the head honcho to show up. He asks us to download the drivers from the net. We say its his responsibility to suply us the drivers. He asks 50 bucks extra for the drivers. He doesn't even allow us to use the internet facility at his place to search for the drivers. We have to use the cyber cafe next door.

2. A friend of mine had some problem with his motherboard. He's advised to buy a new one. After purchasing the motherboard, he's asked to pay additional 500 bucks for installation of windows. We respond that we know very well how to install windows and we wont be paying no money for that. He says that unless you get windows installed by him, he'll void the warranty of the motherboard. Seeing no way out of this we decide to shell out 500 bucks for windows installation (and more importantly for the warranty). Windws installation rears 97% and lo - power failure. ... later on we took advantage of the power failure and pursuaded the technician to give us the PC without instaliing windows.

3. The next Counterstrike competition is coming up in a few weeks. A friend of mine blows his lan card, and desperately needs a new one. We head onward to Prompt. We buy LAN card with a years warranty. The card turns out to be defective and a couple of days later we go back to get the card replaced. After replacing the card , the dude says that the warranty is now voided. we try to talk him to his senses saying that One year waranty is one year warranty and any number of problems within that year should be serviced by him and not just one, but it all ends up in vain. We sadly head back with a voided warranty.

Those incidents have really infuriated me and i look forward to the next saturday when i can finally head toward Lamington Road for some world class quality, service and pricing.
I desperately wish that all those bills had been on my name, i would definately have gone to a consumer court, but sadly the actual victims are still living in the old world where any shop keeper could do any thing he wanted and get away it...
