I have a Reliance Broadnet connection. It has worked fine with all linux distros ive used w/o any configuration. But suddenly yesterday websites like google, yahoo, live stopped opening. Thinkdigit n some more websites work.
I tried browsers like Firefox,Opera and Konquerer. All browesers can open this forum but not google n other sites. I tried this on Ubuntu Feisty and Slax Kill Bill. Surprisingly google, yahoo sites open in opera in windows XP.
Google Earth also doesnt work on Linux now, whereas it used 2 work earlier.

Check the outputs on
ping www.google.com
dig www.google.com
traceroute www.google.com

Did you enable some proxy?

I dint enable any proxy.
The thing is thats this is happening on both my linux distros, ubuntu n slax, n not on XP. I'm sure i didnt change anything.
traceroute gives:
traceroute: unknown host www.google.com (http://www.google.com)
ping gives the same
Dig gives
; <<>> DiG 9.3.4 <<>> www.google.com (http://www.google.com)
;; global options: printcmd
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

and the ubuntu servers are also working as i just installed the traceroute package now

I dont know, but this happened randomly on my box too. But after I applied OpenDNS solutions to both XP and Linux, these things've vanished. Not sure if they can be a DNS issue or something but changing to OpenDNS (www.opendns.com has clear guides how to) has solved it for me.

It just means your ISP's DNS servers are down.. Use OpenDNS (http://www.opendns.com) for a better experience :)

Ok
i'll try OpenDNS
Kalpik:
if my ISP's DNS servers were down, google shudnt have opened on XP also.

Hmm, Try with only one DNS Entry. (i.e. don't add the Secondary DNS Address).

I used to face unresponsive net problem if I add two addresses, but that was in Hoary! But nothing wrong in trying!
