well it looks like dell has finally realized its sh!t .... and cleaned it

Dell Eliminates Almost All Crapware From Dimension and Inspiron Notebooks (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/computers/dell-eliminates-almost-all-crapware-from-dimension-and-inspiron-notebooks-303043.php)

Dell (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/dell/)'s expanding their no crapware (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/crapware/) option from their high-end XPS systems (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/software/dell-kills-crapwarealmost-272131.php) to their entire Dimension (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/dimension/) desktop and Inspiron (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/inspiron/) notebook line; meaning you're going to get the option at purchase time to opt-out of pre-installed trialware and shareware (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/shareware/) that slows down your computer considerably even when it's brand new. The one caveat is that these computers (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/computers/) aren't entirely trialware free—it still has antivirus, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Google Tools left behind.Dell's reasoning (http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archive/2007/06/18/18049.aspx) is this: most people want anti-virus built in, Acrobat Reader doesn't count as trialware (it's free), and Google tools is fine because it's from Google. You do have the option of declining the EULA for the antivirus on first boot to have it automatically uninstall, and Acrobat and Google Tools can be removed using Dell's new uninstall utility.

Rather than giving it preinstalled, they should give installation disks. But good move.

Crap- Softwares that you don't want to use at all given just because the manufacturer is paid money by lesser known software companies to install their software on systems which come preinstalled with os

Excellent. Even in the available options, they should allow you to choose the preinstalled software. I would any day prefer a trial of Kaspersky rather than the crappy Norton.

webcam software is not crapware. its a really good one. i haf never seen a trial version of any office suite bundled wid any dell (but then it mebbe just me). all i used to see was the crap internet security/adobe reader and thats it (at least thats what was bundled wid 2 dells i've seen: 6000 and 1420).

everyone should follow the suite. The greatest crap will all the notebooks is the Norton Antivirus. The situation is even worse with vista coz it does not even allow you to uninstall the application.

Comon we are not talking about good or bad..we are talking about softwares that come prebundled with the OS...they might be good or bad...
You might the get the trial version of your fav AV but still it will be considered crapware...wont it be?

^^Then you might as well say that trial DVD writing software is an integral part of the system too...
Well m not fighting...Just saying that anything else installed besides the OS is crapware...
Anyway Back to topic...Good move...hope others follow suits..
Indian customers would have been much happier with price reduction than crap reduction :D

Crapware is present in almost all popular branded PC & Notebooks. Many are stupid game demos and softwares like Norton Antivirus. Just uninstall them and gain loads of disk space.
