i'd suggest debian stable for you or ubuntu.

the SE phone is well supported but i don't haf any idea about usb modems. most wireless cards work on ubuntu out of the box. but for ralink based chipsets (mostly on dlink cards) the network manager won't work. use wicd (i've posted about it sometime back here). otherwise works fine :)
Thank you all - in advance.
hey jus ThanQ won't do...!! :D :D :D :D hehe....

Fedora too can fit well(?)-they got right gui tools for server setup.although the pkg management will never come near apt, dpkg as in debian etch/lenny or ubuntu.i am ignorant reg wireless support.

^^^ package management is the only reason why i suggested debian/ubuntu. nothing beats it! plus ubuntu has decent wireless card support or at least solutions if its not supported out of the box :)

Ubuntu is the best distro around, But It doesnt include proprietary stuff like Audio and Video Codecs, NTFS Support, etc..
As a beginner you will be lost, Better try Linux Mint, Its 99% Ubuntu with all the codecs and stuff included..

better ubuntu than mint.u'll learn about what proprietary and OSS are!.also i feel ubuntu is the distro that is stable.mint has customized many a things afaik.while Ubuntu sticks on with debian sid+latest Gnome and few extra works like upstart replaced sysVinit.go the ubuntu way! or even better Debian way!!
