Hey guys I just purchased a new system with the following conf:-

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
AMD 690G chipset based motherboard
250 GB SATA II HDD Seagate
2 GB RAM @ 667 MHz
ViewSonic 1912 W widescreen 19" LCD

now the problem is that none of the distributions that i've tried is able to detect the optimum resolution i.e. 1440 x 900. I've tried Ubuntu, Fedora, SLED, SUSE etc. but no success.

Please help.

In Feisty, you can try the Restricted Drivers Manager. It must fetch you a decent enough driver and fix your issues.
