Hi guys,
I have a Gigabyte 81915ME GL motherboard, Intel Pentium4-3.00Ghz processor and 1GB DDR ram. I've planned to purchase a new gfx card for my PC and i'm not able to find out if my motherboard would support the gfx card i've planned to buy. Could someone guide me through this. Im planning to go for GeForce 8600GT 256mb or GeForce 7600GT 256mb.

AFAIK ur mobo duz have a PCIe slot

so der shud b no problem usin d card on ur mobo

if u r not sure if PCI-e slot is der or nt, den just check ur moobo manual

but i think PCIe is present on ur mobo

if pci-e is there then yes it supports 8600
if pci-e isn't there, then no it doesn't supports neither 8600 nor 7600

i dont expect 8600 to perform to full potention in this board . it's got a pcie x4 slot . its only expanded to the physical size of a pciex16 slot.

the board is based on intel 915 GL chipset which doesnt officially support pcie x16 . they have somehow got both pciex4 and agp slots ( GEAR SLOT ).

neway , there may be no guarentee that the card WILL be supported. u have to ask if some1 has tried and/or contact support team of gigabyte . but even if it does the card will under perform..

Asrock had many such PCIe+ AGP boards released wen AGP was being phased out..
btw +1 to the GEAR qn..

dude , u have intel d915 mobo based on 915G ( not 915GL ) chipset which supports full pcie x16 . u wont have any probs . but the OP has a gigabyte mobo with a pciex16 slot ( acutally x4 but its lengthened to the size of a x16 slot) and the gigabyte mobo runs it at x4 link speed which will degrade performance . the gigabyte mobo OP has is based on 915GL which officially doesnt support pciex16 . no probs with intel d915GAV.
