View Full Version : how to install a new hard drive??

hi
i have a 80 gb seagate hard disk on which i have the OS partition and three other partitions

i wanted to install a 2nd hard drive samsung 40 gb pata and also partition it

please help me doing the above

just connect the 2nd hdd as slave and boot...

HDD will be connected as these settings,

jumpers may be configures as this,

Note, that mainlly we use 6 pin drives :)

its a 6 pin hard drive saurav

so should i go for the DUAL SLAVE Setup as shown in the picture you posted??

but the hard drive did not show up in windows xp but yeah my motherboard did recognize it.... what to do??????????

1st of make sure, that jumpers are right, http://www.chotocheeta.com/2007/08/29/installing-2nd-ide-drive-as-master-slave-configuration-using-jumpers/ after that if still OS (Windows) fails to detect it, then try this please Right Click on My computers, then select the option called Manage...

now at computer management, please navigae your self to Disk Management...

as its a new HDD, either you need to Partition and format the logical drives or if its a already partition HDD then you need to asign Drive Letter on each of them... :)
