I recently installed fedora 7 given from DIGIT July 07.I have an AMD 3800+,1GB RAM,NVIDIA GeForce 6100 nForce 430 with Samsung syncmaster 740N TFT/LCD.There was no problem with the installation but after the reboot which is right after installation when I tried to boot into fedora it showed some errors and screen went completely white and the PC hung.I tried to log into single user mode and gave the command system-config-display, and saw the settings --- it recognised the syncmaster.I gave 800x600 and tried to reboot again ,this time the screen got garbled and hung.

I think the problem is no support for video driver.I tried the Ubuntu LiveCD - which also had a similar problem.

Is there no solution ? I do have internet, but I cant connect to the net in single user mode

check if ur nvidia 6100 chipset requires some restricted drivers to be installed. other than this one more cause can be selecting wrong resolution and refresh rate.

@OP:browse only as local user,NOT root.2ndly,U need to user "nv" driver or proprietory "nvidia" driver for getting Display.if fedora doesnot bundles both these drivers,u can edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf device section driver as "vesa".also afaik fedora got a display config utility called "system-config-display" which may work in TUI also.keep posting here.

the swap I allocated is 1.8 GB, since I have 1GB RAM

Swap need not be more than 3 times the computers RAM. i.e. if RAM=384 mb, then SWAP= 768 Mb

Not necessary, i gave one 1 gb ram no swap, and there isn't any problem

swap of 500MB is more than enough, dont go by those rules made for 2.4 series kernels and old.

Swap is not recommended for high ram pcs. I find my swap usage to be 0% always!!!! I have 384 Mb RAM, i have allocated 768 Mb for Swap.

I found a solution...installed it on a virtual machine using VirtualBox.It is working fine and I can share with the host OS also very easily.Since I have enough RAM, it isn't even a bit slow.

Anyways, Thank you all for your suggestions.
