Hi

I am using OpenSUSE 10.2. I kinda like the SUSE menu, but also the old one of Gnome. So, I am using 2 panels, one on the top and one at the bottom. But that is not the point.

What I need to know is, how can I maximize my windows in such a way that, it covers up the area in front of any one of the 2 panels, either the top one or the bottom one. Right now, all the windows are compressed by the 2 panels.

I have tried autohide, but I would like to know any other methods possible.

Are you asking to get a window covering top panel?that may be achievable with an app called devilspie(i dont know the procedures GIYF).but if u want to access buttons etc in lower part of an app etc u can try pressing ALT and dragging the window to the top.that will work.
With compiz fusion i tried on ubuntu, the windows can easily move above the panels.
while by pressing alt and dragging with mouse on normal Gnome, u can only move to top or bottom behind the panels.

Sorry... That does not happen here. Whatever I do, the panel is always on top of the windows.

^that sure needs some hack.it is possible afaik with compiz-fusion that i tried in Ubuntu.but with default metacity wm,u need some devel to get the hack.try posting in Ubuntu forums>Desktop section.may be possible with devilspie.which i dint tried yet.
