Hi everybody,
I'm back after an absence of nearly two years. I wasn't really physically away somewhere else, just concentrated on other things.
I wonder how many familiar names are still here, how many have gone for various reasons, and how many are saying "Huh ? Who's this guy ?" when I say I'm back :)
I noticed some PMs in my inbox, some more than a year old. My sincere apologies for not replying, especially those asking for help. I just did not see them until now.

Naw, I'm not from Bangalore. Though I've suggested hardware sources to members in B'lore, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad-Secunderabad, I'm not from any of those cities. For the moment, I'll keep my location a mystery :)

I'll try not to do that, though I may have to leave home for quite some time in the near future. 6 weeks ago, my 7-year-old niece was hit by a light truck, crushing her against a concrete wall. Apart from an emergency operation to save her life, her internal injuries are way beyond the capabilities of hospitals in my area. I'm likely to be the one to take her to a more sophisticated, multi-speciality centre for an extended treatment, probably multiple surgery.

Hehe... Someone misread my tag in a similar way quite some time ago. Can't be you as you haven't been around long enough. Or was it you under a different username ? Anyway, make a few more posts and you can change your handle to Gohundred :P

Well, it was more than one thing. First, I revived my interest in photography which I neglected for years. I've also started writing a book in my language on photography, with emphasis on digital photography. Then some Agfa representatives asked me to redesign one of their machines for a customer - the designing took a few months and I have not finished the actual construction yet. Then I spent some time conducting a condensed course in applied electronics. And there's always my normal work in electronics and computers.....
wlcm back....u have written post title like Arnold saying IM BACK ..njoy in TG Forum...
:):) Terminator 2 is one my all-time favourite movies. Arnold is one special person. He made an ordinary statement like "I'll be back", and he now OWNS it ! Btw, Did you know that the morphing and other special effects in T2 were done with Amiga computers that had less than one-thousandth the computing power of today's low-end desktops ?
(Some of you may remember my talking about Amigas at length 2 or 3 years ago).
Hope to get some good advices from ur side... :)
I don't mean to project myself as an all-round expert. I'm not. I'm sure a lot of people here know a lot of things I don't. But we're here to help each other where we can, and/or to provide a nice place to hang out in.
Thanks once again, everyone.

welcome back pimpom! i remember you.. sorry to hear abt ur neice. it was shocking. wish her a speedy recovery.
Thanks for the wish. I mean it. My niece amazed everyone including her doctors and nurses. She remained conscious and composed enough to give her name, parents' names and phone number to adults at the scene of the accident. She never cried even once before or after the surgery. She never mentioned pain except when asked.
When they opened her up in the operation theater, the doctors initially didn't think they could save her and called me in (it just so happened that they took her to one of the hospitals where I'm technical consultant). Her pulse rate was erratic and blood pressure was dangerously low and unstable.
Except for some bruises and profuse bleeding from the genitals, there were no external signs of injury, but inside it was something else. Bones were broken and displaced, the urethra was severed, and her vagina looked as if it had gone through a paper shredder, muscle and tissues were crushed to pulp. The anesthesiologist wept near the operation table.
She was discharged from the hospital last week and she's recovering nicely, at least on the outside. She's cheerful and can turn sideways in bed by herself. But the internal damages require extensive reconstructive surgery that cannot be done in local hospitals.
I'm taking her to the Christian Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in Vellore, TN. I worked there before in the engineering department and I've already contacted the Paediatric Surgery department. But it's impossible to say whether she'll be able to lead a completely normal life again.
I apologise for the long post about a personal problem. But I needed to get that off my chest.

Thanks again for the welcome, the good wishes for my niece's recovery and the offers for help. I've contacted CMCH, Vellore, and they told me that they usually re-evaluate cases like my niece's for further treatment two months or more after the initial surgery. So we'll probably delay the trip a bit.
@satyamy : The last time I visited Mumbai, it was still called Bombay, and the computer market had not yet really taken off in a big way in India. I made several visits accompanying my brother for treatment at the Tata Cancer Institute and stayed for quite some time at each visit.
Lamington Road and the surrounding lanes were mostly filled with electronics and cable TV prducts at that time. I suppose that has changed quite a bit now. I'm in electronics and I used to spend hours prowling Lamington Road, Chunam Lane, Kiln Lane (SV Marg), Proctor Road, Tara Temple Lane, etc., and made some good contacts.
I hope I'll be able to visit again in the near future, under happier circumstances.
