Well guys
Next i'll be spending the holidays of 1 month in Kolkata. My laptop will also go with me:). But , there's no internet connection at my place.
As I'm badly addicted to net, it'll be hard for me to pass my holidays without net(cybercafe won't do). So please guys can you tell me a Good internet plan, that'll be available at howrah which may have unltd downlaoding (or atleast UL-night d/l) limit and have moderate speed(256kbps will do). The overall cost(including Installation and every other ) should be around Rs.700-800 .Anything service provider will do.....unless it forces to take a phone connection too, as it wont be needed after a month.

Any one frm kolkata here?

The only thing I can think of is either an oddly costly Cable plan, or a GPRS connection.

^^Howrah.....

@eggman.....for one month i think your best bet would be a GPRS connection, otherwise for BSNL bb, ull hafta take a ph line, and for cable bb, u'll hafta shell out 1400buks initially.(as registration+installation charges)

Get BSNL / DataOne out of option due to the time they would take for installation !!!

I guess QM is right, 2 option is out therefore u, Local Cable, or I would say, AIrTel or BSNL GPRS (Edge)... It takes few hours to take a new AirTel Sim Card  and another few to activate the GRPS service, earlyer it used to be RS. 250 unlimited with AirTel where as now its some Rs. 500 / month :)

Speeds are good enough for Browsing, 150 to 250 kbps (i get this with Nokia 5300) most important is its portable !!! :)

@eggman...na dude, u wont be getting any money back. also, i have heard in some areas the Alliance cable bb people dont take the initial 1400buks, if lot of people around have taken connection in that area. dunno about howrah tho. n btw, guess u'll be around for our next meet? wen are you coming down? and as Choto Cheeta said, GPRS from BSNL/Airtel is ur best bet.

and last but not the least, if u have relatives staying in howrah, ask them to get the free BSNL post paid SIM card under Manik Jod scheme(they need to have a bsnl landline for this), that way u'll just hafta pay 199buks for the GPRS.
