help me to connect two computers

hi friends i have a laptop and a desktop. i need to connect this both to access its resources. i have network cards in both the computers and i have the cable to. what should i do it connect each other for filesharing

use IP Messenger.. www.ipmsg.org.. No need to configure IP addresses on both the cards, just keep them on Automatic mode. I mean IP addressed would be assigned automatically. Or else give one 192.168.10.2 and another one 192.168.10.3... Use a Crossover cable.. Start IPMessenger and start filesharing..
