this may be a virus.
Is your external drive NTFS formated. If yes..than you need to take ownership of that derive. Here is how you should do:

check the file system of all the drives that u already have then check if the external hdd's driver is istalled if any needed !

and yeah if your Mother board is supporting a 300gb hdd !! via usb

hey i have chked all my drives are FAT 32,,,,even the external drive is FAT 32..

when i try to access its access denied...and its not in anee netwok..its a standalone system...so i chked for security chks n all...but thats not problem at all...

when i click explore drive its accesses...when i double click the same...it gives access denied..

Now..When i installed winxp sp2...Its working fine...after that i installed Norton internet security2005... which i had on my cd...then after installation gives trojan ...in c:/and e: and d:///and delted some files...

may be this is a problem...wats say dost...but installing again and again...is a problem..

It was a virus infection. U get 2 "Open" options in drive context menu. One is default and other is added by virus.
When u double-click on a drive, it gives message "Access is denied" but if u right-click on the drive u'll see 2 "Open" options and the second one in list will work fine. ;)
