i have two segate 80 gb HDD.
the problem is that one of the HDD behaves erratically. sometimes it works fine, then suddenly my system starts to hang for a few seconds and it becomes normal. then it simply fails to recognise partitions on the HDD. i have to manually remove it's power connections otherwise vista used to take an eternity to boot.
the wierd thing is that this cycle repeates after a few days.

i guessed it's a cooling problem and took HDD temperatures. it is reported as 38-40 C. is it normal? should i get it replaced? only two yrs have passed

please anybody? atleast tell the normal HDD temperatures

my pc temps-
mobo - 36c-37c
cpu - 43C-44c
Hd (seagate 80GB) - 40c-41c

so temp is not a problem. maybe its power fluctuation??

If it's a pata hdd,you may try changing the cable to see if it makes a diff.

my problem hasn't been solved, but i was thinking about SMPS too.. maybe it's the thing i should change. the problems started occuring after i installed my GFX card.
