umm... pretty good I'd say, although my wish isn't fulfilled!!
I presume Don is free for subscribers. Good things this time is Wiki pack, Ubuntu, Mag contents like do it yourself, Fast track is good too. I guess this is the first time Digit guys paid a little attention to what most of us have demanded. And now the big question !!

When will the subscribers get their mags, first week or the last week ??

so I suppose this mag is priced at regular and not 200/- for no reason.

ubuntu dvd would have been better than cd.

It was possible for Digit to give a DL DVD each month but they never did it. I do have doubt about Digit because people dont have much trust left in them...take this example....The Digit Patron program was about to be re-launched on 14th Feb but it was never done...

Great especially the do it yourself section:) had been along pending request of mine and especially because it helps us geeks to have a more hands on appproach to technology.Whoa now a dual layer dvd every month:p and thanks for the webaroo pack and the student mit pack.Also a good inclusion are the automobile wallpapers.Although you could have included another distro of linux instead of ubuntu which as it is can be delivered to your home by just filling an online form free of cost.Just got a 3 cd pack today that includes 2 32 bit versions and a 64 bit one.The best digit issue yet.

That image is a bit misleading... the DVD that is bootable with the single-CD distro is the same dual-layer DVD.

Also, the mag's price will remain the same (Rs 125) next month and beyond.

misleading....yes thats the right word. when people in another section (Chit Chat) were saying that its 3 DVDs and a CD, why did no one from Digit bother to correct the same?

Its a big disappointment

So for this month, its just the Don DVD, which no one wants, extra for the extra Rs.75/- people pay....too bad

Plus the Office 2007 trial is also something that no one needs as MS might have shipped atleast 2 copies to each Indian...

What about the fast track dear? Do any of the mags give away a goodie like fast track. Digit rocks this time... If this is the sight we'll see in the future too, then my loyalties will shift again towards digit after a brief stint of wavering from it..

yep agree with you,and its not necessary to have fast track print version it could included in the media as pdf, and reduce the price to 100/-.

Wrongo dude. The point of having a fast track in print is that you can always have it as a ready reference for specialised topics . Had it been a soft copy, the very utility and purpose of its being handy would be nullified.

Finally digit has stood up to its name. Great content on both Mag, CD and DVD.Its better to give just give one DL-DVD than a heap of cds. Great going guys. Photoshop CS3 trial still missing. please provide it next time round since its a very big download. Just one question - Are you guys ever going to restart the Digit patron scheme which was supposed to restart way back in february.

It's the best issue since the five year anniversary issue.

Students Section (Especially Learning Linux), Do It Yourself rocks.

Nice to see Battle for Wesnoth.

Really nice issue, but please increase Linux related S/W, articles and tutorials. Give both Windows and Linux same attention. People are adapting it. (If possible, OS-X too).

digit reader since 2003 & subscriber since 2006
but in a few months the subscription has gone to hell
delevery is always made in 3rd week
& instead of may 07 april 07 has been dispatched to me
i have tried a lot to make them know
sent more than 10 mails regarding their information
i know that i should send the issue to them by courier but i wont do that without a confirmation mail them
when they confirm me by mail i wd send the wron issue
therefore i m posting my broken feelings here
please help me
& i wonder if i wd get my anniversry issue on date

Oh dear we both are sailing the same ship and I am afraid if its Titanic!!!
My subscription code is M004863, and I am reader of Digit from 2003 and a subscriber from 2005. For the last 3 months ( june will be the 4th month) I too face the delivery problems but with a lil difference, in your case you get your copy in 3rd or 4th week but in my case I dont get the copy at all.
I have repeatedly called Hyderabad help desk ( Norbet joseph) for help, all he says is he will will look in to the matter. I have repeatedly mailed Digit Help desk, all they say is they will come forward with a solution for my problem. But, so far it looks like I am screwed!!
This month I somehow got the address of the courier agency that delivers my mag and went to their office and to my shock I saw my April 07 and May 07 Digits mags dumped in their cabins!!! When I asked why my mags were not delivered he said he couldn't find my House, for which I replied that my phone number is written along with my address and so he could call me which is the actual procedure for courier agencies. To this he replied arrogantly " if you want your mags .... take them or else I am sending them back".
This month if I get the same deal I am moving to the consumer court and that is final. I have documented all the receipts and mails sent to digit editor. Right now I am waiting for 1st week of june to pass by, once thats done I am moving to Consumer court. I 've learnt one thing ' no use of being soft teach them the hard way'. I hope the same should apply to both of us

-Over-Priced for the stuff given, Rs.150/- would have been fine

just cant resist adding my experience.

i was a subscriber of digit till a couple of years back. i stopped the subscription because it wasnt worth it,the deleivery never happened on time and i had access to DIGIT via a library.

last year,when PCWorld was launched i immediately subscribed for it. till now, i have been getting all the copies on the 1st or 2nd of every month,except twice.Once it was even delivered on 31st!!

the couple of times i dint receive it on time,i mailed thir executive and immediately their staff got in touch with me and ensured that i received the copy, they kept on following to the point that i was exasperated!!!

now,i dont know whether PCW is doing this because they are new in the market or its their normal standard. the fact remains that digit,in spite of being the market leader,is treating its subcribers lightly. they serioulsy need to work on that. Otherwise they will keep on losing customers to its competitors.

@June 07 Issue : Looks OK to me. but the price hurts a bit!!

Oh dear we both are sailing the same ship and I am afraid if its Titanic!!!
My subscription code is M004863, and I am reader of Digit from 2003 and a subscriber from 2005. For the last 3 months ( june will be the 4th month) I too face the delivery problems but with a lil difference, in your case you get your copy in 3rd or 4th week but in my case I dont get the copy at all.
I have repeatedly called Hyderabad help desk ( Norbet joseph) for help, all he says is he will will look in to the matter. I have repeatedly mailed Digit Help desk, all they say is they will come forward with a solution for my problem. But, so far it looks like I am screwed!!
This month I somehow got the address of the courier agency that delivers my mag and went to their office and to my shock I saw my April 07 and May 07 Digits mags dumped in their cabins!!! When I asked why my mags were not delivered he said he couldn't find my House, for which I replied that my phone number is written along with my address and so he could call me which is the actual procedure for courier agencies. To this he replied arrogantly " if you want your mags .... take them or else I am sending them back".
This month if I get the same deal I am moving to the consumer court and that is final. I have documented all the receipts and mails sent to digit editor. Right now I am waiting for 1st week of june to pass by, once thats done I am moving to Consumer court. I 've learnt one thing ' no use of being soft teach them the hard way'. I hope the same should apply to both of us

It is weired that DIGIT claims to be an Indian magazine and includes a Hindi movie as a freebie and guess what with a Computer Magazine :o

There are many like me I beleive who do not expect to have a free Hindi movie with a technology magazine, it would have been better if DIGIT could provide us some thing more relevant to its content...may be a free software or may be none and keep the price and Normal level.

This is weired but I have seen that DIGIT is a very North and West India oriented magazine [specifically Hindi Speaking Regions oriented]. This freebie choice is another proof of that. I suggest that you should wake up and see that India spreads beyond the region of Hindi speaking people and please change your content and choice accordingly.

I am not against any language but I beleive that Digit people have forgotten that all the languages in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution is of equal stature [including Hindi] and India do not have any National Language. So it is best for any Generic Publication like Digit which deals with content which is International in nature to remain unbiased towards any linguistic community or region, which I'm afraid DIGIT is not. The choice of free DVD again shows that clearly.

Those of us who read DIGIT love Digit not because of what it provides free but the quality of the written content that it provides.

So I humbly request you not to include any thing with your magazine just to justify the Rs 200 price tag. and please keep that in mind that consumers are not fools. We can clearly see how many more ads are crammed in this issue in comparision with the Normal ones.

Otherwise the more "digit" -al contents of the DVD and CD are good but just as good as we get with a Rs 125 issue. :) And the DL DVDs are available with other tech mags of Rs 100....these mags are not bad either in terms of their content.

I think you should really pay some attentions to not only the subscribers
but also us who buys digit continuously each month from news-stands. Why should we send back
our faulty CD/DVDs to your Mumbai office by the courier with
our hard earned money, We buy the mag from news stand without any discount.
now if we have to send a disc back we have to pay atleast Rs. 25 for
courier charge. Thus the Total cost of the mag grow upto Rs.(125+25)=150.
Why should we pay that much. I got the Dec 2006 DVD faulty, e-mailed you (helpdesk) but
only got a auto generated reply. No more reply till today. So I lost courage to
send back that faulty DVD. If one company even not reply to readers urgent mail will
they change and replace and send back your faulty DVD if one sent it to them, Will you believe
that company. Digit guys consider it yourself.

I think you should replace those faulty CD/DVDs
by your agents in each major cities so that we don't have to suffer
such kinds of harassments. For example: If one guy say "A" got a faulty disc
he will take it to your agent say "B". Now "B" will check that disk &
instantly replace that disc (if you gave him some additional discs
to for each month) or within a week (if you haven't given him any aditional disc
and he have to send to you). Without any cost from us.

Also be carefull about packaging. Last month I got scratched disk but atleast they worked.
(Not only last month 4 to 5 times each year)

I must praise your effort to giving fast track of Vista and the plan
to give Dual layer DVD.

At the end, I, we a lot of guys in here love digit so much that we cann't
tolarate any kind of degradation of this mag's quality or service

Anyway, I am going to buy it because I love "Digit" and hope they will
improve and then mantain quality.

I already have webaroo on my computer.
How do I just add the wikipedia web pack from the digit DVD without downloading it from the net?
Copying the webaroo content folder from the DVD into the webaroo folder on the HDD doesn't work.

Also,
for donwloading the packs from the net, is there a way to schedule the downloads of the webpacks(BSNL 500 plan so I have 2-8 am free)?
Copy all the folders from the WebarooContent folder on the DVD to C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Webaroo\Packages. If you've configured Webaroo to store packages somewhere else, paste the Wikipeda folders in the Packages folder there.

Boring & uninteresting CD/DVD contents.
Haven't read the magazine yet & will comment on it later.
Fasttrack looks good.
Not enough good wallpapers.
Who needs so many cars wallpapers? Well, not me.
Would have liked some sci-fi & abstract wallpapers.
Take a cue from Digital Blasphemy & Visual Paradox.
Would have liked the old DON DVD or any other hit movie.
And none of my demanded stuff.
So overall, a waste of my 200 bucks.

Super Job. Who cares for Don when u have Ubuntu and Webaroo. It would have helped if Ubuntu was packed as an ISO file rather than have us search for all the required files to be burnt on to a separate Ubuntu only CD.

How to use this webaroo?
I changed the location under Preference, and then copied the whole pack to the new location. But still I'm not able to view it. Its impossible to use the default location since I don't have 6GB free space on C drive, nobody has it.
How to do it? Even online webaroo faq is not helping.

PS: Who selected those WindowBlinds skins?? Those were some of the worst skins I have ever seen. What crap!!

DVD missing...please help
First of all accept my heartiest thanks for the very nice Digit "package" of June 2007. I am a regular subscriber of the magazine from the local news-stand. However I am sorry to say that I have received two copies of Microsoft Office Professional 2007 with the magazine. However the dual layer DVD (containing softwares, etc) is found missing in the packet.
Is it possible to send me a copy of the DVD? I ma ready to return you back the extra Office 2007 CD I have received.
Please reply early so that if it's not possible for you I may buy another Digit to get the DVD into my collection.

I too faced this problem once. The dvd could be slightly bent making it impossible for the laser of your optical drive to correctly focus onto the dvd surface. Place the dvd on a flat surface, preferably a mirror and check whether its flat or bent.

My DON DVD is not working in New Asus DVD+/-RW 1608P3S.DVD DL is working, But DON DVD is not detected at all.
T-Series DVD and casettes media are of bad quality.
I don't trust T-series.
Instead 34/- Rs. Moser Baer DVD Media is better than T-series.
The quality of DVD media is Very Very Bad.

I wasted 75 Rs. for DON DVD (125+75=200)
Sorry Digit but You have done a silly job for 75 Rs for a Defected DON DVD.
Infact DVD-DL contents were not good as it might be for an Anniversary issue.
Magazine contents are good with a lot of advertisement pages !!, But why 200/- (Really) for only good magazine
We will be happy for 125/- for magazine + DVD-DL but no DON DVD.

WHAT HAPPEND TO THE DIGIT PATRON PROGRAM?

I think you should really pay some attentions to not only the subscribers
but also us who buys digit continuously each month from news-stands. Why should we send back
our faulty CD/DVDs to your Mumbai office by the courier with
our hard earned money, We buy the mag from news stand without any discount.
now if we have to send a disc back we have to pay atleast Rs. 25 for
courier charge. Thus the Total cost of the mag grow upto Rs.(125+25)=150.
Why should we pay that much. I got the Dec 2006 DVD faulty, e-mailed you (helpdesk) but
only got a auto generated reply. No more reply till today. So I lost courage to
send back that faulty DVD. If one company even not reply to readers urgent mail will
they change and replace and send back your faulty DVD if one sent it to them, Will you believe
that company. Digit guys consider it yourself.

I think you should replace those faulty CD/DVDs
by your agents in each major cities so that we don't have to suffer
such kinds of harassments. For example: If one guy say "A" got a faulty disc
he will take it to your agent say "B". Now "B" will check that disk &
instantly replace that disc (if you gave him some additional discs
to for each month) or within a week (if you haven't given him any aditional disc
and he have to send to you). Without any cost from us.

Also be carefull about packaging. Last month I got scratched disk but atleast they worked.
(Not only last month 4 to 5 times each year)

I must praise your effort to giving fast track of Vista and the plan
to give Dual layer DVD.

At the end, I, we a lot of guys in here love digit so much that we cann't
tolarate any kind of degradation of this mag's quality or service

Anyway, I am going to buy it because I love "Digit" and hope they will
improve and then mantain quality.

There is problem in playing the "DON" DVD. In my case, it didn't play for 3 tries. 4th try was successful. So guys, just try some more times if you are facing the problem with DON DVD. It might work.

Guys, this isnt what i expected.
T-Series home entertainment DVD can be bought anywhere for just Rs.75/-
kuch alag diya hota toh then it would have been good. something like a retail application or a game or something which can only be bought by "us" people at the "cd shop" which sells pirated one..

just my opinion.. and no offence to srk fans..

I didn't post about the DON DVD earlier to avoid confusion. It doesn't work at my end. Tried it on my laptop, desktop, the DVD player. Gave it to a friend to cross-check, his DVD player says Disc is dirty and doesn't go beyond the selection. Anyone else facing a similar issue?

I will contact digit support to get a replacement after some confirmation here. Considering it's a genuine movie DVD which doesn't work, I get a feeling that I'm out of luck with this.

It seems we're getting a lot of complaints regarding the Don DVD - we're looking into that right now. Regarding the Wikipedia pack, I'm getting in touch with Webaroo and hopefully we'll have a solution for that problem soon.

One more thing: any cases where the DVD works on a DVD player but not on a PC or vice versa?

@fatbeing: Well technically at my end, the DVD isn't detected on the laptop and desktop. The DVD player detects it, plays the intro video and just hangs saying bad disc.

Please update if there would be replacements given for the movie DVD, I am sure the current disc I've received is faulty. And this is very annoying, to be honest.

Gr8 magzine but some mistakes the card coming from ATi is not X2900 its HD 290 and so on .. Why TD gives award to western digital. hdd I own 1.5 Tb space including Segate Westerndigital all are sata 2 but I wont agree that WD deserve this :p It sucks in terms of spedd .. Plz refer online review :) Why u gave Don? Are we movie bufs :P ? DON DVD not working, I do not have a DVD player but tried it on 3 different dvd drives (Laptop/Comp) and its not working ..... I tried make an ISO .... it started giving me read errors after 30-35% .... also I tried to copy the DVD to hard disk using cmd>xcopy mode could only copy 6.5 GB out of 7.59 GB rest could not be copied due to errors (and I could not play it from the hard disk also) ..

So what is happening .....

There is problem in playing the "DON" DVD. In my case, it didn't play for 3 tries. 4th try was successful. So guys, just try some more times if you are facing the problem with DON DVD. It might work.

I tried 12-13 times on my New ASUS DRW-1608P3S.
and 5 times on LiteON DVD writer 1693s.

Guys Dont' try more than that Otherwise you will damage your New or Old DVD writer or Combo

It's all fault of T-series Company. I don't trust T-series at all because of its products quality is below standard level. this company earn money because of cheapest products and people want cheapest things.
and by the way DON DVD is mass-production specially for digit.
So guys u can't expect quality for 10-20Rs. movie DVD.

I can remember year 2000 to 2002, because i lost my Creative CD Drive (3200 Rs.) with remote and a Samsung CD Drive(2100Rs.) Because of chip-digit's Sagarika CD, Sagarika made bad quality CD at that time, and now S.M.E.I is in same boat.
I can play S.M.E.I 's Terminator 2 DVD with no hassle but its DATA DVD takes time to copy, takes time to read,takes time to Recognize.
I can praise Computer@Home magazine's CD at that time because that media run so smoothly and i haven't seen such media so far.

U know before buying I eagerly watch the website for Contents though most buy magz for Opticals but not me .. My frnds watch Cd/DVD contents and if they did not like they shift to another :p I like digit for the matter[never bothered abt Optical contents]:p but still DON idea was so bad that even I did not like it :P Eh? The reviews, available at the forum, about the contents of the DVDs and magazine of Digit June 2007 issue are interesting. Several readers are admiring and some are showing their dissatisfaction against their expectation on the anniversary issue.

But, unfortunately, I have to watch all these as a spectator like some one who does not purchase Digit, since my copy is yet to reach me. I am a subscriber of more than 5 years. Though I am in a major city(Trichy) in Tamil Nadu I am always getting my copy late. Especially during the last two years I didn’t have receive any issue before 15th.

No doubt that Digit carries wonderful content in magazine and discs of every issue. What are all the contents and the quality of the contents that the magazine and discs have, it loses it’s worthiness while it reach me at the end of the month when everybody completes even their review. I had to download those things offered in the discs, before it reach me. Hence, I am getting a not much useful magazine at the time of it’s receipt.

“Delayed justice is denied justice!”. Delayed Digit is devalued Digit!!

Hence, the delivery timing is as important as the content of the magazine. Please arrange to send the copies to subscribers at least before the first week ends. (I am not mentioning the special issues.)

I sent a mail to Webaroo support 3 days ago but no response from them. Why don't you send a mail to them and obtain the solution and then post it here? If you mail them from your Jasubhai ID, perhaps they will respond.

The problem is the same for everybody: the packages get deleted the moment you launch webaroo.
I've been told that if you already have Webaroo installed, just run the installer that's there on the Digit DVD - your Webaroo will get upgraded and the Wikipedia will install to your default packages directory. I can't confirm this right away (tied up with other stuff), so can someone try this and get back?

I was really annoyed by this issue. Only the DVD seemed like a worth. The magazine was horrible telling about the tales of Digit members and their adventures in Europe, who joined Digit and who got kicked out and not to mention the exaggeration on nicknames. I started searching if "mediator" is also mentioned there somehow!

I also saw the A list and felt pity when they suggested the 1+ year old "Suse Linux 10.1" for Linuxes. It seemed like they just copied and pasted the statistics of softwares and hardware prices of the previous issues to the new ones thinking that those will remain static. More ads and less news!

U did it once again DIGIT. You gave us another corrupted DVD! :mad:

Ubuntu has 71 files corrupted (one of them is aptitude).

Now after installing Ubuntu and downloading the lot of updates when my system got messed up and started giving segmentation faults, I tested your DVD and yup no less, no more but straight 71 files were corrupted. Now I am downloading Ubuntu myslef.

Why does this happen time and again in Digit?:confused:

After waiting for a longtime our paperwallah finally handed over me the copy and told me that it was late 'cause he didn't receive it on time. Well I was very happy then. I immediately opened the package and put the Don DVD in the player but no luck. It was playing in hyper slow motion! Then I inserted my DVD in DVD-Writer and later in DVD-ROM of my pc but no luck! The other two DVD's worked fine. I have sent a mail to Digit Lets see what happens!
How many people have got the Don DVD to work?

same here. i called them a few days ago and they said that they dispatched the mag through post on 13th as i complained once for receiveing mags very late through courier. now god knows how they can think that indian postal service is quicker than courier services. and the post date (13th june) is also noticeable; if they start dispatching issues on 2nd week, how can we expect them timely? :(

The Wikipedia pack was just an eyewash. It is not a comprehensive encyclopedia as claimed. Most of the important links were broken. It was almost like a half-boiled egg !!!

Please test all the softwares for it's worthiness before including with the magazine.

When will we get DON DVD relpaced?????????

I am having the same question. I mailed them twice about it but there is no reply except the computer generated mail.

As soon as i got my digit Digit from a local newspaper vendor and starting browing through 'digit' contents and the DVD on June 9th evening, i found Digit DVD(not DON MOVIE) was not working:evil::evil:... Since then i mailed twice to digit and is getting only automated replies......

Now i am thinking to buy other computing magazines in future and stop buying 'digit' in future ...:x:x:x:x

The DON DVD is not working in my PC ..... my system hangs when when I insert the DON dvd.... I have a SONY DRU 800A DVD-Writer with PowerDVD 7 installed.

All existing video dvds are working fine. Can I get a replacement for the DON dvd? I am not a DIGIT subscriber.

to all those complaining guys---just forget that you have bought anything or just think as a bad investment or bad luck, as there is no use showing frustration here, as no one is bothered, not only this mag others also have the same attitude or alse they will ask us to send the damaged media, after spending 200-400 bucks on the mags you have to shell another 50 each to send them back:lol: :lol: :lol:

The Dual layer DVD is not working on my Liteon LH-20A1P.
It works on my old samsung drive.
No probs with the Don DVD.

I got the Dec 2006 DVD faulty, e-mailed you (helpdesk) but
only got a auto generated reply. No more reply till today. So I lost courage to
send back that faulty DVD. If one company even not reply to readers urgent mail will
they change and replace and send back your faulty DVD if one sent it to them, Will you believe
that company. Digit guys consider it yourself.

Subscribers are not with a better service! I always received my copy in the third week and never at least twice a year. Disappointed with their attitude of not even replying, I migrated to stands after several years of subscription!
Good magazine from a bad administration!
Feel happy as subscribers are also suffering with you!
