More details please.
What exact make is the motherboard.
Which distro doesn't work.
Anything else that would be relevant.

intel DG965RY
Seagate SATA 160Gb
Seagate PATA 80Gb
I tried Suse 10.1, Mandriva, Ubuntu 6, PClinuOS 2007(just downloaded) and FC6.
But on booting it gave kenel panic error.
FC6 got installed after cmd line option all-generic-ide and pci = nommconf
And I even tried ahci mode in BIOS.
Didnt work:confused:

mandriva 2007 is best for hardware support... and its developer keep updatin the drivers...
and u tried wrong version of suse coz suse 10.1 does not support sata controllers... but suse 10.2 latest supports sata controller better

Distro doesn't matter, it's the kernel that matters.
All the distros he's used has outdated kernel, that came before 965 mobo was launched.
I have heard that this mobo has always been a sore spot. Only distro I have heard to work with this mobo is sabayon. But, since I heard that and now there has been a lot of development done.
Any distro with kernel 2.6.19 or > might work.
Mandriva seems to support more hardware cos it packs in a lot of proprietory stuff. I would guess that sabayon is also up there too.
I thought PCLinuxOS(kernel 2.6.18) would work but that was the last hope.
Now i gotta shift to anothe distro, suggest me some with kernel 2.6.19.
Yeah but currently 965 is the most stable chipset foe core2duo and it will soon replace 946.
Should i go for Ubuntu 7 ?

Here's one article on it http://db.glug-bom.org/wiki/index.php/Linux_on_DG965RY_HOWTO
From later reports I have heard of sabayon working with the same mobo too.
Ubuntu may work too.
Thnx buddy, i will tell u by tomorrow if it worked or not.
