I am using creative inspire 4400 speakers with onboard intel high definiton audio of the D915 GAV motherboard, the problem is recently my speakers have started distorting at not very high volumes . I have fiddled with all the settings and adjusted things but no use. Please tell me wht could be the reason. Also how can i use the 4 channel speakers as 5.1 surround speakers ??????

first of all make sure that ur not using any equalizer while using speakers..
secondly creative speakers usually cracks at more than 75% of the volume and some times even at 50% of the total volume specially when they have been used quite a lot..
regarding ur second query.... no u cant use ur 4.1 speakers as 5.1 speakers....though u can use dolby surround plugins to have psuedo 5.1 surround effect or in other words psuedo center channel..
ENjoy :)

My speakers are not exactly cracking/distorting i mean like the sound i am hearing is like when you haven't connected the wires properly. l mean that sound when u get when u remove and insert wires frm the speakers. I have checked all the wiring and problem is it is occuring in all the speakers.

tht cracking sound usually comes due to a high rated power adaptor used instead of recommended one in normal speakers
i guess its some power issue
hope u havent fiddled

i also hav an intel board and 1st of lemme tell ya that intel motherboards do hav sound problems under normal circumstances....just dismantle every wires or any other connection and reconect slowly and properly....then check out the drivers and software provided with the motherboard...install d correct audio drivers (wether c-media or anything)....then install the audio software where u lower the volumes and disable xear 3d mode or anything like that bla bla....and 2ndly sourabh can be rite, check ur adapter compatibility....gud luk
cheers

wat ? creative speakers crack at 50% of the volume ? try the high end ones bro .. moreover starting from 5200 and above , all the models have the beat cancel technology , helps to higher the volume a bit ,
Regarding the query , first of all you need to have a good quality speakers to get high volume , But since you already own the speakers , consider a good sound card , go for the SB live 5.1 , it will reproduce much more sound than the onboard solution , and lesser CPU overhead, next to negligible .. Intel may call it high definition or whatever ,
One more tip i wanted to give you is that , you may choose to keep the sub woofer in an enclosed wooden area or a closed area with some closed space for the extra beat , and that's all you can do about it , i am saying this because i had the 4.1 and the 5.1 in the past , a lot of experiment has been done by me :-) , I even tried combining 41 and the 5.1 to get a 9.1 solution ,but it was all crap ,
Anyways thats pretty much about it !

i too had this problem its just temporary.
Just rotating the speaker pin helps me out.
I have a creative soundcard.
I feel its the contact of the speaker pin with the socket on the mobo.
just rotate and give it a try.
