I am looking for a specific download manager with these features.

1.> Can Split the download into multiple small parts and download it

2.> Can Pause and resume the download.

3.> Can have control on the number of downloads allowed simultaneously.
eg 1/2/3.....
Suppose i have 4 files in the download mgr. i dont want all 4 to download
simultaneously instead one file at a time and as one file finishes other
will start downloading automatically.

4.> Does not allocate space for the file to be downloaded before the file
is being downloaded
Eg . Suppose i select a 100MB file to be downloaded and once i start downloading the file immediately, 100MB is occupied from my HDD space.
This should not happen.

5.> Scheduling of Downloads

6.> Bandwidth control while downloading. I should also be able to
control the download speed. This will help me browse the internet in the
background.

I have tried
FlashGet :- violates point #4. Rest of the points are followed

DAP 7 :- corrupted my downloads large files more than 100MB used to redownload it

LeechGet2004:- violates point #4. Rest of the points are followed.

Opera Browsers Download:- violates point #1,3,5,6

Please suggest me a download manager which will satisfy all the 6Points

quad....All of the download managers will violate point 4. And I dont really see the point of using D/L managers with file part splitting and not allocating space....cos thats how they download in parts. Next time something is downloading via the download manager see the graph. They will be downloading different chunks of the same file from different locations. So sorry mate, if you use a D/L manager then the space allocation will always be done.

When you download file with Operas inbuilt download manager
it doesnt accomodate entire space instead whatever it downloads in accomodated.

Eg. you are downloading a 100MB file and suppose you have completed
1mb of the download and now you have paused it.only 1 MB will be used
by the partially downloaded file not 100MB as in case of FlashGet,Leechget.

DAP also doesnt allocate the complete size but only the amount whichis downloaded. But many of my downloads more than 100MB got corrupted
and it used to redownload files so i just uninstalled it.

Will have to try getRight now.

Opera doesnt allocate space simply becos it doesnt download using splitting files. It downloads in chunks and updates them as and when it downloads a chunk. As in sequential chunk downloading is what Opera and DAP does. Thats why a lot of DAP downloads are corrupted. You will also get corrupt downloads with Get right. Try Reget Deluxe. I dont ever get corrupt downloads with it. Dont know about space allocation tho.

YEs, Download express (by mass downloader) is the best, i have used....It's a 400kb plugin file which works with IE or Maxthon only.

I guess it will violate point 1 , 4.

point 4 will be violated by all the managers.

Yeah, these free downlaod managers agree with all ur rules (except 4th, i have not tested this though)...
Bot Download Express and Star Downloader have:-
1]Scheduling
2]control over number of threads of a download (i.e splitting)
3]control over total number of simultaneous downloads
4]control over number of Retry's
5]control over Download Speed (i.e bandwidth used)
6]catch the clicks in all the browsers.
and more.....infact these r better than commercial/ad supported downlaoders.....

The best D/L manager to date is flashget. But then I am not gonna start another D/L manager war here...use whichever is best suited for ur needs.

Hmm, download express actually offers four different speed control.

1.slow (download in background)
2. Medium
3. Fast
4. High priority for downloads, Browsing will be very slow.

What about Metaproducts Mass Downloader?
Meta Products Mass Downloader is the Big Brother of Download Express. Mass Downlaoder has more features but it's a commercial one, and comes with a 30 day trial period....Actually Mass Downlaoder has loads of features....

i wounder... is all the downloaded managers r able to re-established broken dial-up connections & then continu download??

icecoolz
17-02-2005, 01:44 PM
most of them do. There are options to use dial up connections. So yes theoretically they can dial up by themselves and download. I have never done this tho.

What you want is exactly possiblw with flashget
the "filename.extension.jc!" file can be copied and download can be
completed at different places if they also have Flashget.

Then open the partially downloaded "filename.extension.jc!" and resume
download at various places.

Meta Products Mass Downloader is the Big Brother of Download Express.
right on dude....massdownloader roxxx featurewise...the one feature which i found most appealing in MD was the zip preview...metaproucts have even made an extension to integrate MD and DE with firefox....the only downside is the 30 day trial limit....

4.> Does not allocate space for the file to be downloaded before the file
is being downloaded
Eg . Suppose i select a 100MB file to be downloaded and once i start downloading the file immediately, 100MB is occupied from my HDD space.

well...even massdownloader creates an dummy file with extension .mass with the size of the download...i think thats why i get less files corrupted with it....dap too creates many files with extension .tmp...i guess they get filled in gradually as the download completes....

but i will recommend MD anytime....its loads better than dap....
