This is what I did when I used Knoppix
I disabled DHCP and statically gave 192.168.1.2 as my PC IP as 192.168.1.1 is generally the IP of Dataone Modem
Then my modem is auto-configured to go to the internet( I have stored my UN and PW in the Login credentials so that every time I switch on my modem, it automatically connects to the Internet)
Try it out and post the results :D

I tried it with Ubuntu 7.04 (Live cd)
after a few attempts I could connect to internet but connection terminated soon.
I can't connect for more than 5 minutes continuously.
what's the trouble?
can you help me?

@Raaza
If you are using network interface (not USB) to connect to the net, then start the net, connect the wire then boot into knoppix. If it can detect your network card (which it most probably will), then the connection is configured automatically...
And the same thing worked for me in Ubuntu 6.06, 7.04. OpenSuSE 10.2. And even in Knoppix 4.2.3 and 5.0.1. And Slax latest.

search the kde menu in knoppix.otherwise in a terminal type "sudo su" and press enter.then in "#" prompt.type "adsl-config" or "pppoe-config" and follow it.
