I just bought a new PC. Although it's preinstalled with a free antivirus software, I'm not confident of it. I did a search on the net and found good reviews on Norton 360.
Any of you guys use Norton 360? Is it really as it is in the reviews and is it worth the money?

my suggestion is to go for Kaspersky Internet security suite. Currently in version 6. 7 beta has come out recently. Just wait for some time and get Kaspersky Internet security 7.

I suggest don't go for Norton. It has a very bad habit of eating lots of system resources.I suggest you install Avast! antivirus+Comodo Firewall+Spybot Search & Destroy.
The best part about the above software is the all are free to use & also very light on your system, but are good at their Job.

if u decide 2 uninstal norton, make sure u use the "norton unstaller" tool.
my sgstn : uninstall it and go for freeware avast or avg.
that what i did with mine; uninstld norton and instald another (kis).

Why not try NOD32? it is cheaper than norton 360. Also it gives you full shield for your computer. Of course, norton is a very good product!:)

I think you’re talking about the old Norton. I’m having it in my 4-yr old laptop, got recently from the last IT show and it’s good.

NOD32 has a weak rootkit detection thus your system i more prone to bots with rotkit..
Better go fo KIS pay something on ur PC.. freewares are not acceptable all times.

Thanks for the replies guys!
Hmm, the reviews I read did mention the fact that the new Norton products are not as resource-intensive as their old products.

Yes! It is !!!
Norton 2007 is better than 2006 in performance. But still Bitdefender, Kaspersky & Nod32 are pretty much better in virus detection & low on system resources except Kaspersky !

buddy kis is good-but it is heavy on system--heavier than even norton 2007-
bitdefender is best package-if u have say 128 mb ram use nod 32( use it in my home),1 gb ram then u may go for kis-but anyway its proactive is very much irritating and so is also its sound when it finds a virus

KIS heavier than Norton
my PC came with Norton 2005, it'd take ~5minutes to boot, but with KIS, its only 40 seconds :D (256MB RAM).
KIS takes around 20MB of RAM.
Proactive defense is there for a reason & its just doing its job 8) , you can turn it off too.

repeating.... Norton is pretty heavy on resources but Kaspersky is NOT less !!!
Surely vote goes for NOD32

In my Lappy: Norton 2006
both of them were having same latest updates
both were having same virus
still my laptop detects them but PC doesnt

Norton 360 is better than Norton Internet Security 2007 in some respects, namely that it's lighter on system resources, the tools are better integrated, and it presents a much better design model than the currentNorton product line.
To top it off, 360 interface is clean and intuitive

Well, I've tried all the above-mentioned products...and I must say that Norton 360 is very light on system resources and it's convenient.

i used to run windows defender, AVG, and spyware terminator together, but i took out spyware terminator because the annoying popups were driving me crazy! so i picked up norton 360 and now i'm running it alongside windows defender and AVG.
i notice that norton has a lot of optimization tools that clean out your temporary files and that defragment your hard disks. formerly i use ccleaner for cleaning purposes and auslogic diskdefrag for my defragmenting.
question: now that norton 360 performs these same functions, would it be safe to take out AVG, ccleaner, and diskdefrag?
BTW: so far no problems with norton 360. running like a dream, no slowdown whatsoever.

I'm running only Norton 360 now. Got rid of all the other security and optimization softwares. Everything seems to be working fine!
Funny how it seems that Norton doesn't have that many fans when it's the most popular internet security and firewall software on CNET.
Kinda wierd huh?

its popular because most of branded PC's & Laptop's offer it as pre-installed AV solution (with Windows XP/Vista).
otherwise, as everyone knows its the most costliest mistake for PC's.:D

of course, cnet tracks popularity by number of downloads..PCs and laptops which come preinstalled with this wouldn't need a free download right?
so it appears that many people still take the time to download it and install it on their PCs.
also, its worth noting that norton 360 (as opposed to the other norton internet security suites) was built from the ground up, and is technically not an update to older norton internet security suites. therefore, many of the problems that people had about older norton versions have been resolved in norton 360. it would be unfair to compare it to other norton security products.
give it a try, you might like it.

I am using Norton 360 and found that its resource usage is much less as compared to previous Norton products. But it has one short-fall - it is incompatible with both ZoneAlarm and Windows defender and you will have to remove these both s/w to use Norton 360. This wasn't the case with earlier Norton Internet Security products. Also Norton 360 doesn't provide fraud protection while using Firefox or Opera. This feature is only compatible with IE.
I would be using Kaspersky 6 very soon on my second comp and would be posting its performance too.
