If you got enough RAM and onboard(128MB), then Vista should work ok. Don't go for the SP3 XP as its not the official release of Microsoft. This is a real pain and when I tried out, it crashed twice. The others are also mods, so think before you install.

dont format.

install Kaspersky AV or Active Virus Shield -> Scan.

then use Tune-Up Utilities 2007 & clean the registry, Disk drives...

if all these dont help, then run the Standard Recovery, this way only Media Centre is re-installed, this process does NOT affect any data on other drives .

there's no OPTION for formatting XP drive & then re-installing, ONLY TWO Options-

1. Standard Recovery - no file (ur personal) is affected.
2. Full System Recovery - HDD is completely Formatted, thus you'll lose all partitions.

dont do all that.

just install KAV or use a Portable AV -> scan.

is your display working properly? if not, d/l the drivers from your model's page & re-install.

as i mentioned here (http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/showpost.php?p=486706&postcount=8), if its ok with you to lose all data, then run Full System Recovery [wipes all data/partitions], or run Standard System Recovery (if virus's present in C: drive, it wont get deleted & infect again.)

yup ,No Fear (do what you want to), Regret Nothing (coz i know i did this/that)
