Guys..I am totally in confused state..in upgarding my HDD..

My mobo supports only PATA HDDs..and I am having 40GB HDD..now I am feeling the heat of Data storage..and I need to add another HDD....

But the question is that...which one should I go for..keeping in mind..my future upgradation of the complete system...

Now if I gor for PATA now..then there is a huge risk ..that I will waste my money..as the PATA..supporting mobo are ..steadily..going out of the market..

Also..if I go for SATA..then how will the combination of SATA and PATA effect my system performance..and also the main question is that how can I add a SATA HDD on a PATA supporting mobo..

So plzzzzz help me out..from my confusing..???Guys need answer quickly..

Get sata to pata convertor I got it for 550/- delhi for single sata connector last year when I was in the same problem.
This will connect to ur IDE port on the mobo &will give u 1 connector for sata which can be used easily.

You may feel a 15-20 sec delay in booting as the sata to pata convector needs to get detected , but then how many times in a day do u boot, 15 sec will hardly make a difference.

This might help some image links are dead where I posted it from ebay.com but u can search on ebay &it will be shown.

^^ That converter is a piece of crap.. You wont get any speed boost using it, actually your HDD speed will go down! As for PATA becoming obsolete, that's not gonna happen for a LONG time since all optical drives are also PATA. So just get a PATA drive, there is not much difference in speed of PATA and SATA atm.

Yes u wont run sata at its speed instead it will comedown to IDE speed & thus its only ideal for ur data storage, if u need to work on this data regularly then it will slow things due to the convector, read that thread which I posted the link, I used is for 8 months.

The price at which you will buy SATA to PATA would actually come somewhere near the Depreciation on PATA HDD incase you upgrade :)

Had i been in your place, i would go for PATA

I will also suggest you PATA,if you have no plan to upgrade ur motherboard in near future.

Just go for PATA HDD. btw, mobo support for PATA will not fade out soon as PATA is still most used for optical drives. Don't worry and take PATA. Instead of paying 500 bucks for converter put that in HDD's budget and you will get more storage. Never rely on PATA <-> SATA converter.
