want to stop my update

i have winxp sp 2.
in my task bar a yellow logo appered shows "downloading updates"
i tried to stop it but it cant.

and now whenever i shut down my pc it shows u miust install update before turn off.

what i do to remove this option. and
how can i stop update.

i have dialup connection so it makes my internate speed very slow. so please help

right click on my computer icon, go to properties tab>automatic updates.disable it there.
