DVD Video??

I have no idea how to handle a video DVD. I bought a video DVD yesterday which has around 55 video tracks. Now I thought that it would be same like VCD's and would have DAT files which I could copy on to my HDD for frequent viewing but the DVD structure has completely puzzled me. It has all sorts of files with extensions namely IFO, VOB which I am not familiar with. Is their any way by which I can copy only the selected tracks onto my HDD like a VCD. Finding out no way, I even tried making an image of the DVD but it stopped at 87% (I used Alcohol 120%). Please help me, I don't wanna insert it everytime I want to view it ,infact I don't like all the tracks...................................I think i made myself clear!

.vob files are the actual video files.

If you want to copy DVD Video files to your hard disk like a VCD, then you need to convert it to a VCD format. You can use any DVD Ripper - For example this one -

You can convert your DVD video to avi, or any other format which you prefer. But remember, DVD is the highest quality available. Ripping or converting it to another format will definately result in quality loss, it may be minor or major depending on the format and settings you choose.

Another point - If you copy .vob files to your hard disk, you can view them with PowerDVD or any other media player too.

Don't worry... man download the DVDShrink software for free from http://www.hiteshnaik.com/applications.html and copy the DVD files to your hdd without any hectic and problems. This software is specially made to back up the DVD video files because we can't manually copy the DVD .vob files to the drive as we can't recognize the files in the package. Try this software and tell me your opinion about it. I am very satisfied using it. Now its your turn.... ;)

vob in the extension for dvd files..........so just copy them on hd.

I copied the VOB files and was able to view them. I used NERO vision to convert them to mpg and then splitted the clips seperately.
