The GNOME project released version 2.17.92 of its popular Linux desktop on Feb. 28. This is the last unstable bugfix release prior to the 2.18.0 release, set for March 14, a project spokesperson said.

"We've added important bug fixes, great translations, [and] shiny documentation during the past six months," the spokesperson said.

The "hard code freeze" of 2.18.0 is scheduled for March 5. The spokesperson pointed out that "it's not too late to fix this last bug you're ashamed of. And then, you'll be able to think about the future. What will make GNOME 2.20.0 rock? It's up to you to write this future!"

In order to try out the this bugfix version of GNOME, you need to compile it. To do that, according to the spokesperson, you can use GARNOME, "which supports users and has additional/different modules available), or the jhbuild modulesets (which use the exact tarball versions from the official release)."

I doubt it will be possible to include it in Feisty cos they need enough time to test it. Less than month's time isn't enough IMO, unless they're gonna release it after mid of April then there's possibility of it happening. But, we are very much likely to see it in FC7.

Final release is expected to be around 19th April (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeistyReleaseSchedule)
I was wrong feisty will bundle 2.18. The latest, Herd 5, bundled gnome-desktop-2.17.92 so it will come with 2.18 for sure.

Yep.Just Completed Ubuntu Feisty install.it did play tricks with me:p.first the debian-installer cant find the partitions of my sata hdd;when the partition page appears if i click any option, the installer exists, saying No Root Partn found.I made sure that all modules are loaded too.hmm...the trick was to ALT+F2 to get another vte and again start installer using :
~#debian-installer this time it worked.afterwards this version of Ubuntu surely rocks with latest GNOME-2.17.92 (2.18) and many other features to list.
One of the Option Synaptic Now has is "Origin" which shows which packages coming from which repository.
personally i dont much like the light brown ubuntu theme.so moving to blubuntu custom theme set.
