my friends's PC configuration is
AMD athlon64 3000+ processor,
Asus k8vmx Motherboard
Soundmax audio driver..[in windows it shows it..]
256 Mb RAM
In suse 10.2 it is not getting detected where as
In Fedora 4/6, ubuntu, sound was detected automatically by the system..

Run aslaconf as root and see what happens.

The drivers of Asus motherboard of sound for linux are on the Motherboard cd, check them if they're or not.

my sound is not detected debian sarge giving error of /dev/dsp
Configuration:
Intel 845GVSR with same BIOS
Driver is frm intel cd
512mb RAM
P4 2.4Ghz

Sarge is just too old my friend. Either grab some newer distro or you'll need to compile a new kernel.

etch will be out soon, till then you can either use rc1 of etch or use ubuntu. Both can do for a home user.
