I was visiting the Sony Ericsson website today for some content, & saw the new phones which are not in the "Coming soon" catagory, have to say, SE is finally learning something & bringing efficieny & features to the masses. presenting a long post :D

littrally the next blockbuster phone, a solid replacement for K750i at low cost. It has 2 MP Camera, same a K750i, Memory stick M2 support, bluetooth 2.0+EDR & a look to die for, really small at 85 gm only. Screen resolution is again same as K750i at 176X220

The next big thing in Cybershot cams, with 3.2 MP Cam with Xenon flash & red eye reduction, 3G & Push mail, with rumered Video recording at 320X240 & playback of same, RSS integrated, this can very well be the big thing in phones. Screen resolution is supposed to be 320X240

For those who want a cheap phone for taking casual pics & who want to use the phone as a phone, this is littrally the best thing out there. It has features like Cam, so if u like u can use it, & it doesn't even cost a lot, but got 2 MB memory only, again, good enough for casual users of camera, but serious users of phone features. It lacks bluetooth though

The whole grail of entertainment on the go, all I can say "F***, what a phone :p"

Just 71 gm & 9.4mm thick, slimest entertainment device out there i would say. With a 320X240 pixel resolution & 256K colors, playing videos will be a solid experience. Internet is provided by GPRS & 3G. Other features include Push E-Mail, Video streaming. I guess it might have video recording at resolution higher then standerd 176x144. Memory card is again M2 which goes upto 1 GB

i forgot to mention. the new K Series & W series phones are the first ones with Image stablizer technology, which reduces the blur due to shaking hands. This is quite a needed technology in Phone cams

Ya but there is one thing, SE, Nokia & rest should increse the quality of existing camera insted of just incresing the Megapixel. I mean, a 2mp pics takes like 3 seconds to save in my phone, on K790i it takes even more, so insted of pushing more MP, why not refine the existing quality of 2MP or 3.2 MP camera, like incresing the shutter speed or redusing the noise generation

This looks more like a replacement of W700i, i don't like the keypad personally, buttons are too thin, why can't SE go back to T610 keypad

The features are not much difference from W880i, the resolution is same as K750i & I hope they fix the streatching problem of videos

The low end SE phones are going to rock the market for sure, the sub 5K market. I hope atleast now relience can give some SE phones

This just in....a bad news though -

The developement cycle of K750i & W800i is complete. Now SE will no longer make a firmware update for these phones, unless it seriously related to hardware, like battery drain while using some feature etc.

Oh well.....this was bound to happen. K810i is more like a software update over K800i anyway, while W610i is the replacement of W810i

i am in love with my 750 :-). . my previous was k700i. . before that t610 before that a motorola c series . . i have used a nokia for a week , couldnt adjust . so moved to sony :-) since then its all sony for me :-).

K750i here too buddy, i use 98% of the features it has. Camera, Mobile, SMS, MP3 player, Calender, organiser, Tasks & notes are something i extensively use. Just started using it's mail client for Yahoo Mail, then G Mail, then WLM.....really there is nothing i miss in it, other then taking videos at 320X240 & playing videos of same resolution

The keys are small and at first they seem really hard to use for a person with large fingers. However it turned out that they pose no problem at all. They provide a positive feedback and the keypad can easily be used at night without even looking at the keys. Thanks to their protruding design but soft response it's a real pleasure to type messages.

shortcoming of W880i which i found

1) No FM, well this hardly matters to me though

2) No video recording at 320X240, what the HELL is SE doing....yo support it, all the CPU power is wasted, K750i has about 185 MHz cpu, enough for such recording at 320x240 mp4

3) Small keypad, it might not be a problem, so better use it first.

K810i looks juicy, although it doesn't have the walkman brand & color scheme, but who needs it anyway.we care for the work at low price :D, it has 320X240 resolution screen, but don't know about video recording resolution.

Personally, if it supports Video recording at 320X240 or 352X288 then i will replace my K750i with it soon, if not then there is no use upgrading from K750i

The main difference in which K810i excels over K790i are

1) New Design, well...this is subjective & every next phone looks sleeker then the previous

2) K810i has 128 MB Memory stick M2 included, K790i comes without any card. In both cases, depending on your needs you will buy a higher capasity card. M2 goes upto a max of 1GB which is enough for a mobile phone with about 12 hrs of music

3) K810i has 3G but no Edge, while K790i has EDGE but no 3G, well...hardly matters cos 3G is not available in India but EDGE is, i find K790i a better choice here

Everything else is same

As you can see, there are differences, but they hardly matter. Go for K790i, if u prefer cos i find no reason waiting for K810i right now in indian market & usage

They are not even relesed, & speaking of upgrading, first check weather you need the new features. Other then K550i, none of the other phones are worth buying over the existing. K550i is for the first time buyer now, balenced yet cheap & stylish

Note : Just found out, W880i support playforsure & WMA, along with previous support of MP3 & AAC/M4A, so now it has all the format support out there other then real player.

Oh well.....i guess real should understand & start the support for m4a

The second most used format is OGG. Hardly anyone uses AAC and all its variants. Same goes for WMA.

Just found this. GSMArena has done a review of K550i (http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_k550-review-128.php) , which is more or less, the next K750i (due to cost).

As you can see, K550i is more or less, K750i with new features. Infact it's better then K750i at almost same cost, as SE is relesing K550i in the mid range segment. The features at which the K550i excels on K750i are

1) EDGE
2) HSCSD
3) TrackID music recognition, although you will hardly need it
4) Picture blogging, might need it
5) Image stabliser, a really good feature for mobile phones
6) 64 MB internal Memory with 512 MB memory Stick M2 card included

Resolution is same for both the phones, & it supports video recording at 176X144 QCIF resolution. If you are in the market now, to buy a new phone, consider buying a K550i over a K750i. if you already have a K750i, don't bother upgrading, you already have an extremely balenced phone

There are a few, you can read the comparision here. (http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone2=1090&idPhone1=1840)These are the only difference that I can find right now. The K550i has a TFD Screen, which is as bright as TFT of K750i but consumes less battery. Unless we get to use it in out hands we cannot say which is better in usability, but so far, K550i is better then K750i in hardware & software.

Note: K550i doesn't support Megabass

Actually it doesn't make any difference if u are buying now. the megabass of newer k750i is crippled and it is no better than the usual equiliser bass preset. so it shoulnd't be a deciding factor!

All the mobile phones shown in 3GSM from Motorola (http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_at_the_3gsm_2007-news-253.php) & Nokia (http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_at_the_3gsm_2007-news-252.php) were 16M color based, thats 16bit color that we see on our computer screens. However SE, Samsung, & LG models were 262K colors based, oh comon....atleast by now SE & these other should have supported it, they are already using ATI/NVIDIA(portalplayer) chips in mobile phones

I don't think pathik it would be that cheap. It has all the features of W880i and some more. W880i costs 23k. So thats why W580i should be around 25k.
About my cell phone plans, they seem to be going down a nice big drain. My parents are planning a nice vacation this summer and something as 'useless' as a cell phone is definitely not worthy of spending money on according to them. Didn't i tell you you'll get your phone before i do. Now i can just bang my qd in despair.

K series is different, thats for camera so 176X220 pixel resolution is good. Besides it will stretch the video full screen while playing which 320X240 screens don't need to. W880i is also good but it lacks EDGE (3G is not available in India) so does W888i

Yes, W580i supports FM too

I m now eyeing on 2 phones only, either W880i due to a 320X240 screen or W580i again due to slimness of 14mm despite of being a slider phone with 2 parts & 320X240 screen. I just wish both of these phones have auto focus.

Edit : This just in, W880i & W580i has no autofocus.

So now it comes to two choices. If you are in the market for SE phones, Do not go for a phone without 240x320 resolution screen.

SE K series has no Megabass

SE W series has no Auto focus.

W580i is still good, like I said, 14mm with 2 MP camera (just don't shake your hands) & EDGE while W888i\W880i also has no Edge.

Or you can buy a K818i with EDGE. Remember it is india so 3G won't matter.
