Windows XP Boot problem

I recently had a virus attack on my system running Windows XP Professional(orginal). I think some registry keys got deleted and now during the boot process(just before the welcome screen) I get a message ' AUTOCHECK.EXE ' missing with the registry path HKLM\...............'
Though the system boots normally is there any way to fix this wihout reinstalling the OS.
I did not have system restore on when this happened.

If the Registry key path is as following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager

Then make sure in right-side pane, the value of BootExecute is set to autocheck autochk *

Well the exact nature of the problem is like this:

Just before the welcome screen ( where the scan disk(check for errors on the disk) occur) , a blue screen appears with the following exact message:

\Systemroot\windows\system32\Autochk.exe program not found - skipping Autochk.exe

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
