look buddy laptops are meant for power saving modes and desktops have regular supplies , so you can write up to 8x on laptops but they they are coming with 16x burn support and @ 8x a 4 gb DVD will burn in 20 mins. to 30 mins..

It depends upon the DVD configuration. Mine takes 15 min to burn a DVD disc of 4.5GB at 8X. Configuration at my sig.

and i dont have abad config i suppose
AMD athlon FX 74 @ 3.0
4 Gb dual channel transcend 800 mhx ddr2 JET RAM
ASUS M2N-MX mobo
650 WAtt antec PSU
8800 GTX 512 mb GPU
