I use broadband thru PPPOE connection & requires the LAN connection.
After disconnecting the net, the LAN can be kept enabled, but with this setting it tries to enable the same on next boot and that takes long time to initiate. PC almost takes 2 minutes to boot.
If I keep the LAN disabled, PC boots within no time and then I can separately enable the same when required, before connecting to the net.
Is this behavior by default? I.e. LAN taking long time to initialize during boot for PPPOE type of net connection..

I checked by BIOS, Boot from LAN was anyways not selected. I think I have got the reason of this problem. When I manually start / enable LAN while I see the LAN icon in system tray, it’s status is “Acquiring Network Address’ and this continues for almost a minute. During this time a dot keeping moving between the two computers icon in the system tray. Later some IP address starting with 169.n.n.n is assigned. At this point only my LAN is enabled; I am yet to login to net using PPPOE connection type.
When computer boots with this LAN enabled by default, I believe it is this ‘Acquiring Network Address state, that keeps the whole XP boot on kind of hold because Lan is not fully enabled. I do hear the XP startup music and see a blank desktop but for the explorer/ desktop and taskbar to appear, it takes awhile. Then after a minute I can start working with XP, as explorer is fully loaded.

open up the lan connection properties by right clicking on the lan connection in "my network places".. uncheck "show the icon in notification area when connected" ....dats it...njoy
