Shouldn't you link directly to the www.getfirefox.com page? Publicity to one's own websites is not the way to go in this forum isn't it...?

You're kind of right. Was in a hurry to post this first :D. Thought it might help since I could edit that post to provide more links / info later as I posted this elsewhere too.
Something related that I'm working on...."Auto-update" failed for my PC at work. I can't download the full setup due to proxy restriction.
Trying to see if I can do the update manually somehow. Can anyone provide pointers on how to do this?

Hold on until the update shows up under Synaptic. I don't know if it's already there. But it shouldn't take more than a couple of days.

I think the update file which is, I believe, a .mar (Mozilla ARchive) file, is also being blocked by my proxy. The Mozilla site lists steps on how to manually install a .mar. Could someone be kind enough to download the 800KB file (http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-2.0.0.1-partial-2.0&os=win&lang=en-US) and email it to me?
PM me if you could do that and I'll PM you my email id.
Damn. Rather silly of the proxy admins to be blocking the security updates too. Grr.

Would be awesome to have your comment on the blog too if possible. Bloggers love comments on their posts. :)

Never mind. Got the file. And managed to do a manual update. Will make a blog post on how to do that soon.

A bit late...but here is the blogpost on how to perform a manual update for firefox using a .mar file (http://onkarjoshi.wordpress.com/2007/01/09/updating-firefox-2-manually-using-a-mar-file-when-auto-update-fails/). I hope someone or the other will find it to be of use. A lot of people seem to have posted problems with updating at various places on the net.
Would be great if you could Digg the post using the link at the end of the post.
