Four CDS. Thats too much stuff for a single pack. you could have easily provided a single DVD in place of the cds. No special content in the cds/dvd. No movie/ no game and still we are expected to pay a higher price. Even the november CD/DVD with Ashampoo Burning Studio and Ashampoo Winopitmizer was better. Hope the magazine is good.

First of all I am extremely disappointed that I get to see Abhishek Bachchan on the cover page!! Nothing can be ever disgusting than this. If you guys really want to spend money on Celebrity Cover Pages than why not give those celebs that we digit fans have been requesting you for a long time now. I have been asking for Anna Kournikova on cover page for ages now. I tell you remove this By Demand thread for ever coz its totally useless......
I put my Digit Mag on my bed side so whenever I wake up in morning I see the digit mag..... now could you imagine seeing Abhishek early morning!! I this were America I'd have sued Jasubhai Digital Media for causing me mental torture everymorning!! How could you give Abhishek man...... in my guess girls form less than 5% of total Digit Readers and only and only tasteless girls like Abhishek!! I can flame you forever for this .....
Coming to the contents the package looks bulkier than special this time! I like Fast Track so looking forward to it ..... just can't resist what you guys have given about Google in it. And as for that mail from Digit saying that our copy will be posted after 8th, I am not surprised at all(as if you guys send your mags by the first of every month). I get my copy during second weeks and if there are any special issues then I ll get them say as early as 25th of that month, thanx to my calling Digit Help Desk atleast a dozen times!!
All in all to sum up everything this months Digit Mag gets a rating of 2* out of 5 ( Abhishek has eaten 1 *) So your score is * * Better luck next time

I could not get DIGIT til now on stands (it is 4 dec. today.) But viewing the site I came to know of NFS CARBON being given. GOOD! but PC World is Fedora Core 6 wih december issue and Million doller kid. Also agreeing to BLACKPEARL no use of Small B on cover. we are seeing him in D-2. money wastage. Could have been utilised to give some other good software

Same picture in Delhi, Digit December issue is nowhere to be seen and next mag shipment arrives @ 8 PM today so I am keeeping my fingers crossed (Practically I have kept them crossed for so long that they are starting to ache) but its 5 December man I used to get Digit on the last day of previous month say Nov issue on October 30 but for last 4-5 month the condition has worsened and if its not available 2day this must be really bad distribution channel of JDM.

Without looking at the contents I can say that the package does not justify a price of Rs 200. 1DVD and 4 CDs is not a big deal any more. Both PCWorld and Chip has showed that giving dual layer DVD or extra CDs with a single DVD is a cheap deal, as both these magazines are cheaper than Digit, and cheaper than special issues by half!! 4CDs is puerly for marketing reasons. 4CDs looks nice than a single dual layer DVD and gives a false impression of "more", even though the latter holds more data. It also gives them an excuse to increase the price to Rs 200. I know what you will say "You have no idea how many readers don't own a DVD drive. You will be surprised to learn that some don't even own a PC". The next time I'm going to see Digit in braille, because -"You don't know how many people are blind!!"

Now about the Fast Track. FT to Google- should be good, but part 1, part 2...??? OK, there could be a lot to write about google but then why not a FT to Web Design part 2? There is no FT to Photoshop part 2. But there will be FT to Google part 2 or maybe even 3. Why? Because its all about $$$. If they could, Digit would start a series on Google, Yahoo and the like. On top of that we have the never ending Ads that reaches close to 100 pages in special issues. Look at the various sources from which Digit is raking in money, and still they don't spare the readers. Rs 200 for what? If you are so tight on budget, why did you have to put Abhisekh on the top? If Digit wants to see Abhisekh Bachhan on the cover page, make sure you do that from your own pocket money, not ours.

Besides, I wonder why Digit calls this issue as "Special". According to me something could be called special if:

(a) you give more at a less price OR
(b) you give more at the regular price OR
(c) you give the regular at a less price

This issue falls on none of the above category. Instead Digit is giving more at an even higher price.
You see ads like this:

100gm of toothpaste priced Rs 20.
Special Offer - Now get 150gm for Rs 20.

Have you seen something like this??

Special Offer - Now get 150gm for Rs 35.

Digit should stop calling it a "special" issue. Bumper issue would be the appropriate word.

I haven't missed a issue for the last 15 months or so but this time I'm considering of letting this one drop. I wanted to see what Chip has got to offer this month on their anniversary issue, but those lazy morons are yet to update their website. I'm really pissed!! :evil:

Well observed, though I must clarify a couple of things:

1. Google didn't pay us for the Fast Track. Just like Microsoft didn't pay us for Fast Track to Windows XP, and like Adobe didn't pay us for Photoshop. NOBODY can buy coverage from Digit - if something's good, it gets covered; if it's bad, it gets bashed. We have a strict code of ethics when it comes to matters like this, and it's a personal insult to any writer (from any publication) to read such an accusation.

These are software and services that people use in their daily lives (just try going a day without using a Google service). The reason it's in two parts is that it was simply too big to fit into one - the original intention, incidentally.

2. We never pay celebrities to be on our covers. To the best of my limited knowledge, nobody does - being on a magazine cover is enough publicity, apparently. Money, if any, is given to the photographer (if it isn't our photog doing the shoot) for the right to use the image. Of course, we do need to get the permissions from the celeb's agent/PR/manager/whoever.

Now that is not always true. Celebrities like Abhisekh may afford to make free appearance on cover pages. But less popular models and first timers will demand money and in all probability, does get paid.

The keyword Special that you use ever year with your December Magazine is just a gimmick!! Tell me one reason why it should be called special. Is it because ....

1) It costs 200/- for news-stand buyers
2) Subscriber will get their copy a week ahead of another special

4) Its more bulkier than its ever been. Its gotta big ass now

However being a Digit fan still can't help myself and will be looking forward for it. But one thing is for sure.. I am gonna tear off the cover page!! - There is a wallpaper of Fedora with a lady standing in front of a mirror absolutely nude, showing off her boobs. Did not expect this from Digit

- No Digit Patron Points
- NO DVD Case
- Bulky Packing
- The Linux CD could have been given as an ISO on the DVD as the distro is not used much
- DVD dedicated to Play Only
- Almost Every Alternate page in the Magazine has an Ad.
- Some Repeated Software on the Discs
- Fast Track on Google is just around 160 Pages

* Not worth Rs.200/-, Rs.150/- would have been fine
* Could have given 2 DVDs instead of 4 CDs with some popular and big Linux Distro on one Disc and Utilities/Tools/PDFs etc on the other and the "Play" DVD is alreadythere.

Linux on a separate CD is good , it saved us from burning iso on a CD. Also , I would like to suggest that whenever u give any linux distro as ISO images on DVDs , try to make that DVD bootable from that distro . It will save us to burn thos iso's onto CDs. saving of effort and money.

I got one complaint, though: I was really hung up on getting the fast track on google... I thought it would relate to advanced google search tips and tricks etc. But most of it was about the google products :'(

I know that subscribers doesnt havta pay extra in this special issue but I didn't renew my subscription after september this year, due to some dissatisfaction over few other occasions where i felt subscribers were being deprived of some things, but would buy digit anyway .......

I agree with you but there is no issue without cd-DVD. digit may consider to have an option of having the magazine without cd-DVD in much cheaper rate.

I finally got the copy of digit. And I thought the the tag price of Rs 200 is too much. I have a proper broadband at home so i am not bothered about the contents on CD/DVD, but the contents in the magzine this month are not very good. I thought November Issue was a lot better than this month's.

Previously you had to click on "I agree" and immediately you are through. Now, select "I agree" and then click Enter- an unnecessary click. Earlier the description of the softwares were obtained at a single click. The Install button was also on the same page. Now single click to get a preview shot, double-click to read and then another click to close the window. Again double click to read the next one - another click to close. Very annoying.

I appreciate the work done by the designers and it does look pretty, but in terms of usabilty, the previous ones were better. I hope you get back to the earlier style of navigation from next month.

We never said we're reducing clicks, we said we're making it more usable, in the form of an OS like look and feel.

The disclaimer page should have just one click, and we'll change it ASAP. The rest of it, is quite similar to just using a computer. Also, for those of you who like to revisit disks, you should find the Add To Favourites very useful, so you know exactly what software you liked in this particular disk, even after years!

The previous interface was good, but the problem with it was that it was confusing for a few. Hopefully this will new one will solve all those problems.


More such feedback is requested, and we value all of it. If you find bugs, :) even better!

The new interface is cool and loads a bit faster too. The Explorer like interface, should have the 'details' of a particular program from the list in the right, to its left along with its image (very over-sized). Having the details below a decent sized image, would help people know about the software without double clicking it, every single time. The install button is also missing directly.

The hide Digit and leave it to system tray option is a nice addition (I am taking that as another new addition, hope am not wrong) Never noticed it earlier.

But a suggestion, whenever a section is opened from digit button, the folder typo evoked plainly have the name of File or Product in there - no Quick Info.

Like File Info in Real OS Explorer, there also you ppl can provide quick info panel sensing the curosr over any product

Felt short changed after paying 200 & waiting 8days into DEC (too late) all I got was getting software alreasy covered by PC World+a lot of software covered in previous issues...only the fasttrack & digit archives cd was worth the wait...mag content was below digit standards.

Okay... finally managed to nail down a copy of this month's issue at Churchgate.

Thumbs up on the new CD/DVD interface! FT to Google is good, looking forward to its concluding part next month.

A big BOOO! to the skyscraper packaging of the CD+DVD. All the four discs are scratched. I can't believe the condition of the DVD though; it's roughed up to the point that my drive simply refuses to read it! The fact that the remaining discs are in working condition doesn't undermine their poor packaging and maybe even their rough handling during the packing process.

I hope this is an isolated case(re: scratched, unreadable DVD) as I'll try to demand a replacement. On top of a late release of an eagerly anticipated issue, if people are faced with the prospect of demanding for replacements, they won't be pleased one bit.

A Big disappointment.

Most of the CD/DVD contents were useless. Small and medium sized games were repeated, most of them isn't worth playing. I'm surprised you guys at Digit liked Worminator(???). There much more better games than that. The only thing that I liked on the DVD was the movie "Blue", but I would have loved it at a higher resolution.

The magazine was average; the zero1 awards was crap. Why do we need the zero1 awards? Isn't it a summary of all the products tested throughout the year? Then why would someone who reads Digit each month need it seperately. Now don't tell me its for those who don't read Digit each month. If someone misses an article, its their problem. And by the way, isn't the A-list something that serves the same purpose? The zero1 awards is just a detailed A-list. The buyer's guide is the same thing- repetition, it was the same stuff that was published last Dec, perhaps with a little modification. What was published is over and gone. Why keep repeating stuff? Sorry for the harsh words, but the magazine contents was worthless, atleast a large part of it.

The fast track was too detailed. It was like reading a manual or a read-me file on Google. I just skipped the pages and its over. Now you will say something like - "people complain when we are brief and people complain when we are detailed". What I have to say is, you write little on stuff that should have been written about more and you write a lot on stuff that should have been brief. While writing about Google Picasa and others you don't have to begin from installation to whats under the tools>option menu. Let the user find it out for themselves. And now there would be a 2nd part!!

In short, it was one of the worst issues in recent months and the price of Rs 200 makes it even more worse. I really shouldn't have bought it.

the last time i was happy with your mag was when i bought my last desktop and that was around oct 4-5 years ago. n the last time i bought digit - april this year was for ubuntu and tm nations.


though i love tech tech news n read it daily at google news and torrents of pc world u.s but i would still like to read the performance tests which u guys do.

now one good thing you can do is to make a noon dc version of your mag just like electronics4u.

speaking of electronics u can add a electronics construction artice/etc. i remember when i was in 10th i was a total electronics hobbyist ^_^. the first thig you can add is an lirc(google) style project. just perfect for ppl who have their pc hooked up to the lcd tv's like me. (trust me u need it)

You can educate the indian indian masses about triple head 2 go (triplehead2go) and other widescreen video options.

Well the interface is really very good and nicely treated! full bucket of cheers and a suggestion note: "please give also the swf files on cds and dvds to run interface also on Linux OS. This OS can't run *.exe. Is all good things are only for Windows?

2.They will do funny things and you have to bear that. Suppose as of my case, they are dispacthing my issue BY AFL courrier-ANKLESHWAR. And you will think what is wrong in this? But my friend I am leaving at BHARUCH city, which is far away from Ankleshwar! I wrote to them including editor but all in vain. Result? I am always getting my copy late .

3. Now a days there are many IT mag like DIGIT,CHIP,PC-WORLD and in near future many more may enter the field. If you are not subscriber you have choice that each month, go to their respective WEBSITE ,find content of Magazine and CD/DVD and can decide which Magazine is worth for you this month.

4. If in newsstand copy, you found any CD/DVD broken than that vendor will replace that CD/DVD immediately and for subscriber you have to spend some extra money. What you have to do is send broken CD/DVD by courier at Rs.25.
In newsstand copy, they are dispatching CD/DVD in safe CASE (Plastic CD box) and if you are so lucky subscriber, you get your CD/DVD at own risk without CD CASE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO EVERY SUBSCRIBER .Some may not like to send broken CD/DVD at Rs.25.

Absolutely agreed. That is what I feel. I still have not received the dec issue. I have said it before and I say it again, subscribers must be given the first priority. Take a look at readres digest. I used to receive the copy in the last week of each month. (ie. dec issue in the last week of nov). But nowadays they have gone mad also. But still their issues reach around 3rd or 4th. That is ok, but it's 12th and I am still waiting for digit. :-X

I got My Mag yesterday evening , I really like the NEW CONCEPT but not the Graphics Much as I was expected when seeing it in the Magazine. Though I like the snow falling animations, even I have been creating one for my new sig ( will link after I finishd ) .

Yestarday I purchase my digit (I am not a subscriber,I bought it from news-stand).

First I say thanks to digit for their wonderful Digit Archive CD.....Its really great.....Now....I poses every First-Track till date.....Feeling happy....some digit issue which i missed earlier.

I like the idea....that wire magazine companion Audio CD Rip (before that digit also provide some mp3 in the CD/DVD in this year,but they are useless not match my test...don't remember which issue)...it's great also...and i don't found any Porn Wallpaper in the DVD...which some one complained earlier in the forum....hope he did some mistake.

I am not much excited with the new CD/DVD interface.

I can't understand the purpose of 2CD i.e Utility and Work.....this will raised the mag cost<--I think so.It (space) can be manged in DVD (decreasing the number of game) and 1CD.

haha never ... Linux only copied them all from Vista . I made the glasses and other Resources are from Windows Vista's not Linux anymore.

Great idea for DigitOS V2 !- If you are good at flash then can you add some effects like wobbly windows (in linux) and that f12 linux thing (aero equvilant is the alt+tab thingy).

In a nutshell, a very bad December issue.

There was nothing there which can be considered useful- neither in the magazine nor in the CD/DVDs [except the Fast Track]. This zero1 award also seems to be a nonsense. If you look at the previous issues you can find that LiteOn DVD burners were the recomended ones- what Sony did to change the opinion in one month? Fishy, isn't it?

I am not sure why Digit wants to loose its credibility, but if this continues, Digit will sure loose it- like it or not.

I request Digit Administration not be in amisconception that eaders ae all fools or they can be fooled with non sense sweet talks.

I strongly condemn the Dec 2006 issue- Digit never had the right to waste our hard earned 200 Rupees.

The issue was good i like the digit archinve and fast track archive.But content on DVD was not up to the mark it was just one intersting game and video and movie is very pathetic. digit is becoming bad if not worse in delivering the magazine to it's subscribers on time

i recieved this month's spl issue only on 22nd december.isn't this bad enough for me to complain.

team digit should really look into this matter seriously.
(even the cover was tore when i recieved this month's issue)

it should consider changing courier service if possible.
previously untill some 4 or 5 monthis ago for a period of 6 months i was recieving digit on the first week of the month.back then it was delieverd by bluedart.then i started to recieve it on or after 10th.now it is delivers mags by a (stupid) old age courier frenchexp

YES a VERY VERY SPECIAL december issue indeed for the subscribers!
First special offer for the subscribers.When everyone else gets the issue on the very first week of december,subscribers get the issue on 22nd of december.
Second special offer,you're given a SPECIAL dvd which doesn't even work.
And finally when i mailed you the problem with Dvd,there's always the same reply

The only good thinkabout Digit is the FAST TRACK which continues to be unique and quite informative.
If you guys have read any US magazines like PC World(U.S. Edition) or PC Mag you would find that the recent issues are full of Vista reviews with with the january issue of PC Mag containing around 50 pages on Vista. They also have reviewed almost all pre release versions of Vista including all the betas and release candidates. But I have found hardly more than 4-5 pages dedicated to Vist in Digit. Infact that too was quite some time ago.
The articles in the magazine are good but the test centre is gettting really bad.
