Hey Guys,
Which is the best anti-virus software 2day? Also can u recommend me an anti-virus package that does kill my comp.. basically i need an anti-virus thats fairly light on my RAM n CPU.. Somethin that doesn't take all the RAM in the world like Norton! :D
Instead of an internet security suite, a plain anti-virus along with a good anti-spyware would suit me, i guess..:?:

Well! I don't know the solution but as I think Norton is the best for detecting/removing viruses & is the worst for system speed. I have Norton 2005 with updates but my system speed is 1/4 of its real speed. I m also eager to know the AV which can defeat Norton.
Prob. with other AV can be (Based on my personel exp.):
Unable to detect many of viruses (i.e. little virus library/defination)
Unable to remove virus from infected file. (Mcfee is in this category).
Modify/Corrupt the infected file during repairing, as a result the file becomes useless. (Mostly in the cas of EXE). Once happened with PANDA AV.
Delete the infected file without asking/warning U.
Doesn't provide options like Norton.
Slows down system. (Norton itself is in this category).

@gg 3000,
I recommend avast! Free Home edition.
It has good detection rates and a decent web shield too to prevent attacks on your computer from an intruder.
It has ability to repair executable files using Virus Recovery Database (VRDB). avast! Pro version has Script Blocker too, which prevents harmful scripts from running on ur system. With alll these features, it is still extremly light on system.
Regarding AntiSpyware, go for 'Spybot'. It is a free version.
For paid version, go for 'Counter Spy'.

Stick to a good AV n Firewall combo with once in a week Spyware scan with Ad-aware n Spybot.
Also install Spyware blaster which will block all the known sites which propogate malware.
A gud AV would be Avast as recommended by all n a firewall will be Zone Alarm.
Though ZA might have compatibility prblm with Avast Pro, so go in for some other gud firewall like Comodo.
My personal experience
Avast n Comodo r very gud combo with the other mentioned Anti-spywares.
I have been using this combo since almost 3 months aftr removing ZA due to compatibility problem n there has hardly been any problem n that too when i forgot to switch on my firewall after allowing full sharing of all my drives n connected to net !!!
