Streaming does look good in EDGE enabled devices because of higher data transfer speeds, but about the CNBC link that you mentioned, i tried it with an EDGE enabled handset (6630) and it looked just as bad. Maybe the link is like that only.

Actually...

Ordinary GPRS is about 30–80 kbit/s.
Refer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Packet_Radio_Service

EDGE can carry data speeds up to 236.8 kbit/s for 4 timeslots
Refer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_Data_Rates_for_GSM_Evolution

So, its no wonder that EDGE mobiles offer higher speed. But, the ordinary rtsp
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rtsp straming protocals provides quite small frame rate , 3G provides closest clear video streaming due to higher speed. So the video streaming by airtel might be just much as u see... if u want to get closest to fine, get a 3g( in india?) or for a ok level , edge(available).

as airtel's only providing gprs [atleast in my place] u wont get a clear live streaming.....

but audio streaming [mundu radio] works fine
