View Full Version : Path of storing update files(urgent!!!)

hi techies, i am using bit defender v10 and counterspy currently and regularly update them. now im planning 2format my pc but don't want 2 again download the updates. can ne1 suggest where they store the update files and how can i replace them after re installation of windows. as mentioned above its urgent as i have 2 format now. so plz help. Rohit...

"All updates r stored in following folder:

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Just copy paste all folders under it and then run update.exe file to install updates again"

windows updates are stored in the folder mentioned by asgudps.
not bidefender/counterspy udpates. just clarifying.
u will have to take fresh updtaes fror these two after a reinstal imo.

No!

Updates are downloaded to the following folder only, as mentioned already: :)

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Can anyone tell me, can we store the Updates of Avast n Spybot n Ad-Aware
so that aftr formatting we can directly update em w/o connecting to net.

ashu_dps : reg adaware the file is defs.ref in the program folder itself :-)

avast! : in Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup folder
Spybot S&D : in Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4\Updates folder
Ad-aware SE : in Program Files\Ad-aware SE 1.06r1 folder with the name defs.ref :)

P.S : i had tried copying these files earlier bt Avast didnt show that it was updated. It showed the same old Virus Defination Date

I never tried this method, so can't tell u much! :)

But there r update installers available for avast! so u can download and use them in case of fresh installation ;)

Can anybody told me where the Update file location of the Windows Defender ?
Or please give me a link where i can download Defender's update definition file.

Windows Defender updates are also downloaded using Automatic Updates, so I think those r also downloaded to the same folder of Automatic Updates!
