Everything will be available on your system no need to visit any site. Which distro are you using?
For any debian based distro synaptic will give you almost everything. Similarly, for rpm distros you have yum/smart.
And also read the stickies, there are a lot of links for many OSS softwares.

need A/V codecs and ntfs read/write driver

Install yum or smart. And update it's repositories you will get all the required softwares.
