How To Install New Software From Cd/dvd?

hi guys...
am running CENTOS (a free alternative to RED HAT ENTERPRISE EDITION)..
i want to install new software and games from digit cds and /or dvds....
how can i do thet ..i tried but i failed it is showing me the source code instead...
plz help......... do i have to first install it on win XP and then mount my HDD to use it?

What is the extension of the file? And what software are you trying to install. Without these we can't really give you a proper answer.
