Please justify why Digit gives .NET Framework 1.1 instead of .NET Framework 2.0
The Digit Archive is built on 1.1. Anyhow, we're porting it to 2.0 this month, so October onwards you'll see Framework 2.0 as an essential.

PLEASE PROVIDE ARTICLES FOR YOUR COMMON READERS ,ARTICLES LIKE how to make copyprotected audo cd, how to make ghost file, how to edit pdf documents with FOXIT softwares, etc. so that not only techsavy but common people can take advantage of your mag.
I think your mag is more inclined to heavy articles, unnecessary advertisement in other format.
Most techsavy people don't read DIGIT, IT IS THE COMMON PEOPLE WHO BUYS YOUR MAG.SO LOOK AFTER THAT CLASS.

Come on guys, M$ is already gearing up to release version 3, you are still giving out 1.1.
This is not professionalism.
Thanks for any remaining good works.
The trouble is that applications written in 1.1 won't work on 2.0. Blame MS.

when will people ever learn that the exact defination of windows is ->
Windows [n.]
A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition."
just to make that clear heres just a lil quote
Only 32 kilobytes of RAM in the Apollo capsules' computers was enough to put men on the moon. The Voyager deep space probes have on-board computers based on a 4-bit CPU. An 80C85 CPU with 176 kilobytes of PROM and 576 kilobytes of RAM controlled the Sojourner rover that drove across the surface of Mars and sent us a wealth of scientific data and high-resolution images in full-color stereo. But when I have a 500MHz Pentium II with 128 Megabytes of RAM and 30 Gigabytes of disk space, and I try to type a letter to my grandmother using Windows XP and Office XP, the job will take me forever because my computer is underpowered!!
i am not a linux fan but still i hate M$ i recommend everyone to take a look at this enlightment

Isn't Legends like a year old and Tekken like a month old ? How can you guys be so darn stupid ? Senseless reviewing , really .
Both games are available in India only now, so it makes sense to tell people about games they can actually go out and buy. Pretty sensible, methinks.

If thats true then Digit should do something about this or atleast encourage the concerned people to pick up the pace . Its not fair to the indian gamers if they get to read reviews and play games that are extremely old and WTF is wrong with the people/importers/distributors who are actually bringing the games to India ? Legends is such an old title whereas Tekken is fairly new and don't you agree that most Digit readers are good enough to understand this fact . I would like to see our IT magazines keep pace with other magazines , you guys do a good job when it comes to hardware and other IT jingalalas but what about games , why can't you guys keep up with the pace ? And besides , SKOAR is supposed to be the mag for all the reviews right , it seems that you have outplayed your own gaming mag . Just think of it , PSP reviews can be found in Digit and not SKOAR , whats happening there ?
And besides , most people who actually have a PSP in India are not idiots . They want games so that they can get some return from their beloved handheld and they surely would not wait for a mag like Digit to feature a review of an year old game . These people don't give a damn about which game is scheduled to release in the INDIAN MARKET and when . PSP owners in India have enough sense that allows them to either download game ISOs from the internet or they have enough money that they can go out and order stuff from outside the country or even buy games from the grey market cause grey market always does stuff the better way if not totally legal and besides you don't find pirated copies of UMDs anywhere now do you so they pretty much are authentic copies , so buying latest stuff from the grey market makes more sense .
So the point that I want to make is ..... reviewing an year old game not only portrays how poor and imbalanced the gaming coverage really is but also gives a very untrue and a bad impression of the indian gamer and tells the world how disinterested and lazy the indian gamer actually is, which is certainly not the case if you ask me .... and the irony is that its not even his/her fault . Its the fault of the media people who are letting the gamers down by doing such things . By serving them dishes that have already gone bad , by not giving them the coverage they truly deserve. by giving answers like " It has been launched in India only now " when they already know that things and rules need to changed ,if this trend continues.... the Indian gaming fraternity will never be able to see the daylight I'm afraid .

@wiiwii
1. What's wrong with Indian distributors? Well, firstly, they have to deal with publishers who are still only waking up to India as a market, so they have to push publishers for new games, rather than publishers sending them to India. Still, the situation's getting better. The past few months of game reviews haven't been that disappointing - for example, we got the Call of Cthulhu review copy a couple of weeks before its international release, even.
2. SKOAR! is a magazine more for hardcore gamers. Digit, on the other hand, covers a wider audience, many of whom are casual gamers. You clearly haven't read the latest SKOAR!, or you haven't noticed the PSP game and accessory reviews. Finally, there's really no way we can upstage SKOAR! when it comes to gaming.
3. People who can get games from relatives in the US, or from the grey market, are welcome to do so. We cover legal markets as a matter of policy, period. Even if that means a few stale reports here and there. The legal channels aren't as fast as the illegal ones, as usual, and we aren't happy about it, but there you have it.

No, it's not dangerous for your system. Antivirus programs will throw up that warning because keylogging software is tremendously misused.

Hi
I still have not received my Digit for this month. I am sorry to say this but as compared to other magazines, Digit has really let everyone down. This is a computer related magazine and you well know that the things related to PCs keep changing at a very fast speed.
What is the use of the security and other updates to me if it reaches me one month (or so) after the time it was ment to be installed? Please consider this a request and do send the magazines before the 1st of a month (29th or 30th) so that it will reach us atleast in the first week.
And if you have sent it by couriers (as I am aware, you do send it by courier) then it takes maximum two days for a courier to reach Sangli from Mumbai.
Please try to improve. I hope that I will see the magazine in my hands a little earlier from now on. :-)

That's because Deep Paint isn't there. Notice the article says "nearly all" - we ran out of space.

The movie section this time was yucks!!! And that home made bullet time video was too-too amateurish. If I were you, I wouldn't have included it in the DVD.
The mag contents are good. You should try to maintain this standard.

Though i'd like to mention that i'd really like to see some more hardware reviews , atleast a page on them , and not half a page ...

Yeah..seen this. But it seems that some actual studio work went into getting those six images - blue screen et al. And how did they get the guy suspended in the air so long?
Basically, we tried to simulate the conditions under which bored individuals might make this at home - one single day, disparate cameras, little or no equipment, and WMM. I admit, though, that the video could have been way better - serves me right for choosing something as unpredictable as a car falling off a table. But now you know you can do better, so let's see if we get some submissions in that department.
@deathvirus_me
Duly noted - we'll cough up as many details as we can within the space we have.
Finally, the Rise of The Mushroom Kingdom was an awesome set of movies, we thought. Ditto the rest of the Mario Movies. Nearly died laughing.

And how did they get the guy suspended in the air so long?
The guy wasn't suspended in the air for long, that was the effect created by bullet time. The guy was suspended only for a split second and they slowed down the panning of the camera to create the effect of suspension. They must have introduced a lot of intermediate frames in between to slow down the video. They used something called Winmorph to do it. Maybe its much better in creating transitions than Virtualdub.
Actually a car wasn't a bad choice but you could have taken a couple of retakes to get the perfect landing.

I meant, suspended long enough to take the six pictures - you give me no credit, do you :p?
Taking six clear pictures of a guy in mid-air is either:
1. Extremely well-synchronised still photography, or
2. They hung the guy with ropes and then took the pictures
The resources in either case are usually beyond your average home user.

I give you credit, don't worry, very few people try these things at home. What I want to say is it could have been better.

I think you are not getting it. Its not possible take such a shot with still cameras. All the cameras they used were video cameras and were rolling at the same time. The guy jumps, remains in the air for a fraction of a second and then falls down. Lets say the guy is in the air at time=t1. Now take the feed from camera01 , let it contunue and stop it as soon as it reaches time t1. Now take just a single frame from each of the rest of the cameras at time=t1. Arrange them sequentially and continue the rest of the video from time t1 from the last camera used. This is how its usually done. Did you use still cameras to capture the falling shot?? If you did then its really commendable.
P.S: Just look at the following behind the scenes video from the movie Matrix. Look at the extreme number of cameras used (the black dots on the green wall)

Sigh...read the article again - I explained the same procedure right there.
You need a really fast camera to capture the detail that these guys have - a feature sorely missing in the regular old digital cameras we used (from the pool of cameras that came for testing).

awesome issue guys the piece on linux was really cool now i can finally throw that pirated windows out the window (that is if my dad allows me to) just 1 complaint your magazines are two short!!!!!!!! i mean it takes me little over a couple pf hours to finish it so for the rest of the month i end up reading my old issues over and over again. Plus do you have any tips for convincing your parents to allow you to subscribe to skoar! and digit at the same time?
kudos for the magazine

I have a similar gripe. I believe that at least one article (probably the cover article) should be extensive and in-depth. At least 25 pages. You might compromise with the total number of articles, to compensate. remember, Quality >> Quantity

The length of our articles is based on a load of market research, and according to that, unfortunately, the average Indian reader doesn't have the patience for a 10-pager, much less 25. Geeks are still in short supply in this country, so we need the non-geeks if we want our money.

i agree with led_shankar mebbe u could put stuff on your website and even if people dont have patience for a ten pager then why not bring a whole lot of 10 pagers for the magazine, also if u have time constraints for articles then why not get some free lancers to do it i mean some ppl would be happy to submit an article or two even if u dont pay em also why not add stuff from forums?

U can give long articles which is continued in every magazine..in that way..u can make the readers to look for the coming month magazine eagerly.
And, whats the use in just peeking in into a technology...writing something abt it and leaving it. A vast research level articles which would continously published for more than a year or like...wud be helpful.

Even I disagree with the (well-meant) idea. If you stretch an article on the same topic beyond one issue, the writers and readers both lose their focus and zeal towards it. It is better to have one article in one issue. Besides, it would make the mag predictable.... and then no one would want/need a 'preview' section anymore ;)

sorry for the 2nd post..
forgot to tell....
What I wanted is: no one can fully explain anything in IT..in a single issue..almost all the topics consume dozen of books. ( some even hundreds of books )

@elumalai: I hope you were not offended. You're right that no one can explain stuff in a single issue; But a magazine does not intend to thoroughly cover a technical topic. What it can do, is to give a helping hand for those who will find it interesting. :)
No worries though, at least there are people here who have concerns beyond DVD/CD software
