Open the Terminal Window & type:
$ sudo apt-get install xmms

Wait for down & installation to finish.
XMMS can play MP3 audio very well, it's similar to WinAmp.

For Ubuntu,there is rhythmbox,banshee,beep media player etc.if u wanna get amrock,U will end up d/ling qt libs.for installing s/w run "sudo synaptic" and select the one u wan2 have.b/w below is my /etc/apt/sources.list.u can try adding as root
