Again REPEATED SOFTWARES... That too same version. For updated versions its OK...But what about Macromedia Dreamweaver 8...It was given way back in December (I think)..Also COREL DRAW X3. Usually I look for 100MB+ NEW softwares in the DVD.But if they are repeated that too same version then what is the use of being a subscriber?

@hard_rock: Dreamweaver 8 has been given to tie in with the Fast Track - if you'll notice, a lot of the software is web design related. CorelDRAW X3 has been reviewed this month, so if you'd like to try it yourself, it's right there.

@manas: Opera 9 final released after we finalised the CD/DVD; it'll be a regular feature starting August

its very nice to see early update, however I request digit team to see that mags are available by atleast first of every month, as once I see the the update here I become restless for the mag and have to hunt for it thus spending as equal amount of mag on fuel also.

There are many softwares that could have been added, instead of repeated ones, like Avid Liquid 7, the latest nero 7.xx.xx.xx, mandriva linux, etc etc,. Wat i'm saying is, anything new is better than repetition.

well another great magazine edition...
but i am sorry to say that cd contents dont throw u off ur chair....many a times software given, since nov'04 and b4,were way older than their current versions available in market for months like spyware doctor-3.2,bsplayer...
I cant see myself buying digit unless newer and much better contents are provided or a mgagzine only edition is provided, for which i will be the first to buy!!
i am not bashing digit, but only their cd/dvd offering could justify a high 200rs tag for special edition and 125/- otherwise...

Full versions cannot be given in magazines Although by using cracks you can make them work like full but that is illegal.

I hope, U know that Ulead DVD Workshop 1.2 and many other softwares [which are repeated] are not related to web design and therefore, no justification. Arround 75% is repeated stuff and even same versions. I can not take that much of pain by making a list of repeated softwares because you are never going to improve. I have seen it in past. Feedback and suggestions are not taken care off. If I am not wrong, I think Vista is available for public download.

It is very simple that digit's survival depends upon the lack of broadband in smaller cities. When that happens, people can downlaod what ever they want and don't have beg digit. This month issue is complete shock. Number of repeated softwares have been increasing by passing of every month.

The magazine contents are OKay but I don't like the CD/DVD contents at all. There are many new versions of popular softwares waiting to be downloaded and tested, but this month's discs contain none of them. I think TeamDigit knows that the discs' contents are a big reason for us to buy 'Digit' everymonth.

i'm very sorry to see the cover page,
you see, i'm just 15 and my parents are not that open minded,
i know how awkward it would holding the magzine with a cover like that.
you should include the content which is suitable for children of all ages
considering all this i might not buy it at all
and if this continues i might have to discontinue reading DIGIT

Where is the Fedora Core 5? I was in great hope this time to receive but Digit knows nothing than repeat I guess!

u r right dude! i guess digit has been taking the advantanges of our broadband-less disability. digit has been since long ignoring our comments and feedback i guess.more than the readers feedback, i guess they provide us what they like specially the one who sits in front of broadband and download. This is really disgusting!

I think the magazine and cd/ dvd contents are good this time.

I think that digit should see that their magazine can be read by all ages.
I think tht some parents may be worried becoz of this months coverpage. Also some of the younger readers may get drwan towards such ideas becoz of the publicity given to such things in Digit.
Please ensure tht u have a Magazine rated Everyone and not teen.

i think that digit should include one linux distro in every issue rrather than 3-4 in one issue(may 2006). PLEASE INCLUDE FC5 , SUSE 10.1, mandrive free veresion and SLACKWARE 10.2 As soon as possible.

The cover story is very well written; I think every parent should read that. But I think there could have been better ways to promote it on the cover page. Are you trying to lure the parents or the kids into buying this issue?

Ok, Fine I Am Giving Up Digit. I Have BEEN A ReadER For Three Years. But I Think Now Its Enough. 7 of the month has passed & no Digit. What the hell is wrong with this persons. Every month on 8th they dispatch a mail saying that delivery has been started late & u'll recieve a copy of digit by 10th. Now, this is very bullying attitude of Digit. Especially first they were dispatching it through Blue Dart which i used to get by 4th of every month, now they are dispatching it by AFL Wiz which means no digit till 10th. wake up man. or I'm heading towards stands when my subscription expires.

hi to all..
i am yet to but the issue..
i have been regular reader for last 6 years for now..
but really putting sex on cover is bad..
well you see for those who are reading.. and those who as are seeing someone reading it in PUBLIC places , both will be embarrassed..
many of my relatives will just say i have gone bad..

many thinks should go into when writing a national magazine..

if DIGIT is also commercialised like OUTLOOK and India Today then ..

well i am really ...

Well if digit is serious about user feedback, than i suggest they better have a look at PCWorld's July issue, the contents of the DVD is what i want...all softwares from all sections.lots of reviews and advices and at Rs-60!!!
I care a damn about price, but the quality of magazine and DVD contents were amazing....

Problem with Digit Archive

The readme file provided with Digit Archive says its version 0.3b, but after installation I found its only ver 0.2b. Moreover, softwares given before Jan 06 and after July 2005 does not show in search result, i.e. the archive is not updated from July 2005 as said. Seems like you have provided the wrong version of Digit Archive on the CD.

Could you please upload the correct file to some file hosting server and give us the link?

Fast track to web-design is mainly for newbies. But it has missed out a few things that newbies will love.

Free tools like NVu are not covered. How many really "buy" Frontpage or Dreamweaver? If people are given tips on NVu (http://www.nvu.com) or Bluevoda (http://support.vodahost.com/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=viewdownload&downloaditemid=1) or Yahoo Site Builder (http://webhosting.yahoo.com/ps/sb/index.php), they will be tempted to try them out.
It would have really added value if a small list of free hosting providers would have been included.
A few more tips and details on choosing the right hosts would have been better.
Sites for getting free web-templates are not mentioned anywhere. A mention about some of them like FreeTemplates (http://www.freetamplates.com/) or Interspire (http://www.interspire.com/templates/) would enhance the value.
Only a 3/4 page on SEO really doesn't do any justice to the topic. Little more details would have been better.
IMO, www.w3schools.com and www.w3c.org deserved a mention at the right places. The former is a hugh resource of knowledge for learning basics of lots of web-technologies.

As for domain names, it makes a mention about godaddy but not about DirectI which is an Indian entity with offices even in Mumbai. Although DirectI prices to direct sellers is on a higher side for a .com, it is one of the best one for registering .in (Indiatimes, Rediff, etc. suck big time, Net4Domains want you to pay for 5 yrs at a time).

Additionally, if domains are taken from a reseller of DirectI, prices can be better than GoDaddy!! Additionally, the interface that can be given to a domain registrant gives all facilities! So IMHO DirectI really should have found a mention, at least for .in domains.

finally got my hands on digit july 06 despite the 'sex scandal' ..... fast track to web design is AWESOME ..... i hope that the editors do take into consideration the displeasure expressed by the members of this forum to the cover page .... agreed it is an important issue for today's generation however there are various ways of highlighting these issues .... and this is 1 of them which should be avoided

@tuxfan: The newbie focus was conscious. Maybe we'll follow it up with an advanced design thing some time in the future. As for the rest of your points, I freely admit our boo boo; though we have covered choosing hosting in a previous issue of Digit (will have to check though - was waaay before I joined).

Incidentally, a few of us have had really bad experiences with resellers, so that probably wouldn't have featured anyway.

It's a hi-definition movie (you'll need a slightly above average config to run that). Try using VLC Media Player or install the KaZaa Lite Mega Codec Pack (both are on the CD).

I think you have covered some points on hosting in the Fast Track on "Online Presence" a few months back. But they are far from comprehensive! I am sure you can't put everything. But here's one thing that you can put at the end of every chapter - Resources (links) for further reading.

As for resellers of DirectI, you haven't still tried me :D ;)

Aha! I knew there was an SSP angle to all this :)

:D No man, not that, but I will give you names of at least 2 more people whom you can rely upon and they are reseller of directi. Here you go.

You already know Deep. He is one. Then there is one more fella from Kolkatta - Aloke. I think his name here is firewall. He is now a friend. Even he is reliable and is a reseller of directi. Just because a few are bad, doesn't mean all are bad. Even on its own right, DirectI should find a mention at least for .in domains! The rest all for .in suck big time.

I agree, it is an eyewash. It is neither intended for novice nor advanced users / publishers. If it is for newbies, I fail to understand, there is no mention of WYSIWYG Bebsite Builder from pablosoftwaresolutions. I bet no other softwares can be better and easy than this for novice users. Undue obsession with flash is unwarranted for and it is not possible to learn any such advanced capabilities through your fast track. Few days back I have opted for Web Design 2.0 for exchange of digit patron points. I found it to be totally useless. Because digit is just clearing crap stock of 2003.

Templates are the talks of day and plenty of them are available and millions of visual editors. Also there is nothing for Google Adsense ready sites. Designing site is onething [very easy] but optimizing for search engine, and other promotion tools would have been covered extensively.

Nobody said about resellers being bad - I know that there are good ones - but the proverbial burned child shies from fire, doesn't he?

i'm very sorry to see the cover page,
you see, i'm just 15 and my parents are not that open minded,
i know how awkward it would holding the magzine with a cover like that.
you should include the content which is suitable for children of all ages
considering all this i might not buy it at all
and if this continues i might have to discontinue reading DIGIT

I completely agree with you. I am myself only 14. It was an awkward sitution when I recieved the mag. with the three letters written in the largest font size. I fell you tried to sell your mag by showing the three letters outside. If i were a newsstand reader I would certainly have not bought it.

The cover story is very well written; I think every parent should read that. But I think there could have been better ways to promote it on the cover page. Are you trying to lure the parents or the kids into buying this issue?

I completely agree. Digit tried just to lure childrena nd parents.

ok well the articles are pretty good, the cd/DVD sucks.....and the cover page.......OMG............my mom never even touches digit mag(Even when i have to show her the latest gadget) but after seeing that she actually read the article................BOOOO Digit........

i agree that the word "SEX" shud not be Taboo...but cmon guys ur mag is brought by 12-13 year olds.......and they have real parents and most of them are narrowminded.

i give digit -9 out of +10 for this issue.

LOL,everytime you guys make an article about porn, you actually endup "educating" kids about how to access porn

Example: Page 42 has a pic with the URL linking to :
Now every kid in India[who doesnt know how to use Google] will know where to find da chicks !

Seriously, there is no point in discussing "anti-porn" software...its upto the parents. They should educate the children about whats good and whats not for their age.....you guys are just trying to catch "attention" with **** like that on the cover....makes me feel ashamed of being a Digit fan

The good part,is the DVD.Thx for providing the DXSDK and the old movies.

I'd give you guys a 2 out of 10
One point for the DVD..
.
.
the other for the URL on page 42(yay!)

And oh,btw, thanks for sending the mag on the 15th itself...phew.....I got my last month's issue on the 28th....hahaha....big improvement,eh ?
