i have been using Windows for about six years till now,
but i don't know anything about linux environment.
i just tried KNOPPIX 4.0.2 DVD, its just stunning
so just thought that i should start learning about Open Source too

can anybody suggest some good books for a novice like me ?
i need to know everything, right from partitioning and configuration

I usually get and read books on linux administration from my library and read it. Any recent book on linux administration will do as most of the basic things remain the same. And those books will give a good basic understanding to get started.
Also you can find nice books at www.tldp.org/guides.html for some really good books on linux.
