I would beg to differ here.. I would never install AVG or Quick Heal.. Lowest detection rates of the lot (<80%). Norton on the other hand has 97%+ detection rates. Yeah, Norton is a resource hog, but detection rates are great!

I would never like to install any anti-virus :p .

I more vote for AVG, it is low on resources as it is low in detection rates.

norton !!!
looks like norton is the 'winner' here in this poll ! :-)

Norton has the best heusterics engine and offers the best protection. What's wrong if it uses lot of resources? If you have 512 MB of RAM, it doesn't make any noiceable difference.
And you can always disable it when you are not connected to the internet.

i beg to disagree pal. nod32 is said to have the best heuristics in the trade. kav and bitdefender are close runners up.

i consider norton bloatware. there are more efficient av around like kav, nod32, avast. light on resources and effective.

as far as the best av protection goes, i m inclined to vote for bitdefender, kav, nod32, pclin, mcafee, etc.

kalpik
24-05-2006, 08:09 PM
^^ Yup.. you are absolutely correct. NOD32 has the best heuristics, followed by BitDefender. Although, id remove pc-cillin and mcafee from your recommended av's list (pc-cillin cuz of low detection rates, mcafee for the same reasons as norton :P )

allow me to answer pls.

avast n avg are freeware. they have good detection AND removal capabilities. they r also reasonably light on resources. avast has great features though avg offer a simpler/basic gui. both offer realtime protection too. what more can one ask in freeware !?

Ok.... but looking at the poll...
it seems tht Mcafee n Quick HEal r having tough fight....

samrulez
24-05-2006, 11:18 PM
well why is NOD32 not there in the poll..Well NOD32 is the best in anti-viruses but it does not have a firewall etc which norton has..

Can any one tell me how much memory does norton internet security take.....

Like Trend Micro Internet security..........20 MB approx
Avast!............................................ ...4MB approx
NOD 32..............................................12 MB approx.

ymhatre
24-05-2006, 11:56 PM
well NOD32 is so best tht no one will ignore it...
So its not here......

aryayush
26-05-2006, 02:18 PM
So NOD32 is the best if someone wants only an anti-virus? Does everyone agree?

Then you'll get infected by a virus. :D
why? None of the antivir mentioned in the list r very good at detection(99%+)....Kaspersky is missing...so is NOD32 ;)
But lemme tell u, dont underestimate avast!...its good

aryayush
28-05-2006, 02:34 AM
BitDefender too.
Sorry for jumping to conclusions! I hadn't really scanned the options. And I know Avast is good. :)

NOD32 is an AntiVirus, not a Firewall! You should definately use a firewall. I use XP's in-built firewall. Its nice and light, doesn't get into my face. And before people spam with "windows firewall sucks", lemme remind them, a poorly configured firewll (user presses allow to everything) is worse than XP firewall. And XP's firewall is excellent at blocking inbound stuff. I dont need outbound protection as long as i dont install crap, and im behind a router. If you really want a firewall other than XP's use Agnitum Outpost firewall.
