-intel processor 2.8HT is no more available in the market now if i m not wrng..u can go for Intel P4-LGA 2.8GHz 533MHz,1MB,Non-HT-4900rs,or better Intel - HT P4-LGA 3.0GHz 800MHz,2MB,LGA-HT-8050rs.
-512 DDR2 667Mhz arnd 3k may b less.
-945G with onboard GPU-ARND 6K,or 945P widout Onboard GPU..this shud b a better option if u plannin 2 go for a dedicated GPU.
-i wont suggest u COMBO drive...instead get a seperate DVD-ROM & CD-RW.(SONY,LITEON)
-300W SMPS is not at all enough..better get a 400w atleast,Powersafe 1.4k,antec arnd 3k.
-Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 793S 17"-6.4K
-go for SATA instead of that barricuda.price diff is marginal.Seagate SATA 160GB 3.8k.
-LOGITECH KB & Optical mouse .8k
-Altec Lansing ATP3 2.1-2.8k
-Atleast 600va UPS...800va will b gr8..betta backup.
-i'll suggest u to go for 6600nu instead of 6200.

@ashfame...

Why the inclination towards Intel huh?? For gaming & other purposes also, AMD processors have shown far better results...

As for Mid Range, check out the following Config & enquire about the rates, I am sure it shall be within 35 Ks

Processor: AMD 3200+/3000+
MotherBoard: ASUS A8N VM / ASUS A8R MVP
MSI RS 482 IL (With on-board GFX solution *cheaper*)
MSI K8N
RAM 512 or 2*512 Corsair/ Transcend/ Hynix(less preferable)
CD-RW / DVD ROM (Preferable to go in for 2 separate ones): SONY/ Liteon
HDD: SATA Seagate 80GB/ 160 GB
GFX: NVedia 6600 256 MB
Monitor: LG/ Samsung
Keyboard/ Mouse: Logitech
SMPS: 400 W Powersafe
Cabinet: Intex/ i-Ball
UPS: 600 VA powercom
Speakers: 2.1 Logitech

The above config in Nagpur comes out to around 38 Ks...The rates shall be far lesser in a place like Mumbai & the package should come within 35000.

Peace

HK

That's a prescott and its known for its thermal problems. The stock heat sink fan sounds like Su-30's thrust vectored engines. I have a 2.8E and feel that i'm working near a runway :-(

@ashfame - a socket 775 processor would be better i feel though i've not used one till now. Maybe some other board member who's using that can confirm

Hmm ... the p4 stock cooler is quite noisy .. but thats the case only when it reached 4k's rpm ... if u keep it around 3.5k's the sound is barely audible .... better case cooling will surely make this possible ...

Wht about this:
Intel Pentium D 805 Dual Core Processor (2.66 GHz, 2MB, 533MHz FSB, Socket 775)
Also suggest a mobo for it.
(mobo with onboard lan card & sound card & ddr2 compliant ram)
Pl also explain fsb details.

And will the above processor work on a mobo with 1066 Mhz fsb. (Intel D945GNTLKR Motherboard)
Does it has a pci-e 16x slot for nvidia 6600 & support for ddr2 ram sticks.
is there any variant of above processor for 1066Mhz fsb.
Urgent!!
