A lot more coverage to linux this time! Though I don't need any of them but still it will be great for many others.

how about the digit Software Archive 2006 0.2 beta? what additional features does it include or what modifications have been made?

A (hopefully) less frustrating search engine, even more search criteria (freeware/shareware, individual categories, month and year), an install button so you can just insert the appropriate cd and install the software from the archive itself.

There might be more, but I'm too bored to check right now.

So this month its Linux special. Hmmmm.... not bad. And thanks for the Fast Track on Linux.

The Acronis Disk Director Suite was given on the January issue but it was useless becoz it did not allow us to perform any type of function. It was simply a non working version of the original. Total waste. I hope this time its different.... or is it not??

Now that's what I call some hardcore contents.
Finally some really good stuff after a long time.
Had been getting p_i_s_s_e_d off for so many months.
Reason: late preview, no fulfillment of requests, ignorance, bad magazine & CD/DVD contents, etc.

And at least, u fulfilled some of my requests:

NetBeans IDE 5
NetBeans IDE 5.0 + Application Server 8.2 Bundle Installer
Windows AMD64 Platform - J2SE(TM) Development Kit 5.0 Update 6

Linux Distros

DivX Create 6.1
MSN Messenger 7.5
nVidia Forceware Drivers v81.98 (WinXP) (February 2006 release)
PC-cillin Internet Security 2006
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver 14.4

Digit Software Archive 2006 0.2 Beta
Winamp 5.2
Adobe Reader 7.0.7
Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional
Nokia PC Suite Version 6.7 release 22

It's not all I requested but I think they'll suffice.

Mag articles look good. Also, ubuntu was unnecessary since it can be ordered for free and that too in quantities.

Also, i already have the adobe suite.

Well, linux is a different case. The Linux users have been on a rise ever since, but i dont c much future for mac. Currently the OS distribution for WINDOWS:LINUX:MAC=100:10:1
But yeah, i m sorry. There should be something for every1 :)
All i want is more freeware system software and less of shareware, specially those with limited trial period (in case it isn't a major software like Flash or Photoshop)

Linux issue. I am not happy with the cd\dvd contents. Too much linux for a winxp fan.

Dude, also think about ither users who are linux fans.
Digit gives WinXp fans WinXP softwares each month, that too in lumpsum.
For once, Digit gave linux fans something they were asking for since long time time back, in a lumpsum.
I'm a WinXP fan too (like most of other users in this forum) & I have no problem with Digit giving linux s/w or OS's.

Hey guys, the gentoo installation is only 50 mb....is that full version or what? I saw on the net and found it to be minimal installation pack.
Can any1 tell me the difference between 50mb minimal installation disk and a 6k MB Live CD?
Will this gentoo instllation have all the features that r available in gentoo?

mehulved
03-04-2006, 10:00 PM
well if its only 50 mb then it is a minimum install cd and worthless unless u have a broadband connection without data limits. You will have to download all the packages. This has bare minimum install packages. I don't think it even has Xorg.

MysticHalo

And how much would Ubuntu of 620 mb have?I have seen Linux as big as 3.5 Gb (SUSE 10), so i dont think that this one is complete either

mehulved
03-04-2006, 11:54 PM
Well no distro can be completely full of all the softwares available out there. But, Ubuntu has enough packages to get it working for the needs of day to day users. It has almost all the softwares that a normal person may need for day to day use. And Ubuntu is light years easier to install then gentoo.

This issue's cd and dvd suck!it has nothing for home users! I request you guys to please include about 100 celebrity and nature wallpapers everytime!

i am terribly dissapointed with this issue. though magzine is good, but cd, dvd and fastrack are USELESS AND WORTHLESS! i feel CHEATED THIS TIME!RUBBISH!

Quite opposite since lots of my wishes were fullfilled by this one... tho Gentoo was a disappointment... :) Celebs? They only do so much to repeat the same wallies again and again, so its better if they dont give at all...

Fastrack was useless and worthless? looks like u need to use your comp rather than sit and jus see image galleries and cycle wallies... :|

What did u except? A book which has all console commands and can instantly make u a linux geek?? Dude even those 100 kg books having 1000+ pages can't do tht. Fast track was excellent. It rekindled my intrest in Linux.

c'mon qwerty and sujithtom stop attacking that poor guy. He's just expressing his opinion. Not everyone is interested in installing linux and messing around with different softwares and all. He just wants to use his computer for doing daily tasks and stuff.
Good to know that the fast track book interested you'll and a lot more people to linux.
Hats off to digit for giving out that book.
Maybe digit should try to accomodate full install cd of gentoo of ~690 mb in future. It's a nice distro for people who can find their way around linux.

If u have never experienced Linux I recommend try a live cd first. Try Knoppix the best one around and its free. After making urselves familiar with the nix envirnoment install Mandriva or Linspire which has the best novice friendly environment. Linspire is not free.

hey, the articles in the main magazine turned out to be dissappointing...specially when i spent half my pocket money on that....:(
Only the one on Piracy was cool.
And that gentoo linux turned out to be only minimal install....arrrrggghh!!!!
I specially bought the magazine for gentoo and Fast track...but #%&#*^&##!!

And yeah, xcept Ubuntu and a FEW apps, the software is bogus...all shareware thingy put down...most of which r useless sort-of.

Except the softwares on Linux and the Fast track, the rest of the stuff on the DVD was useless.

Also that article on Piracy....it was bull$h|t. A software is developed by dozens of developers working together and for something like the Windows, hundreds of developers are involved. To deliberately leave a loophole in the programming would amount to a conspiracy involing hundreds of developers at different levels and even people more the management, which is impossible. Besides to think that each and every s/w company is doing this is rubbish. Windows and all s/ws have enough security problems already and to purposefully leave a security hole is simply absurd. How can anyone come to think of such an idea?

Perhaps Agen001's friend doesn't know the principle behind cracking softwares. A software is just a piece of code which can disassembled without even knowing the source code and then the assembly program can be modified to simply jump over the subroutine that imposes restriction upon the usage of the s/w. Anybody with a decent knowledge on assembly langauge can crack a program.

restrain from double posting, its not the right place to ask this question, separate opensource section is there for such queries, any way to help you by the queries you have posted it seems you have no idea of linux and dual booting,
you cant install it in c drive where windows is installed.
you have to first install windows and create required partitions and leave say 10gb free space for linux,
when you are done with windows boot from the first rhel cd and follow the simple instructions and select the required packages for installation, when boot loader option comes you can select which OS to make default and also you can select the required OS for booting when the system starts booting, as a splash screen appears with menu to select,I think this breif instructions are enough for you, more queries post in the appropriate section.
