i wish we could have some stuff on C++/VB. A page or two for student programmers like me(there are really many of us) would be great.

cd/dvd should nothave the same version software everytime. and most importantly get that cd/dvd box back. this paper cover is absurd. my digit archive cd was broken :x and the vendor isn't agreeing that it was broken before being sold to me. for non-subscribers, it's the worst that can have happened.

Atleast this month will i recieve digit on time.last month i recieved it on 22nd.that doesn't look good.this particular courierservice have never delivered digit to me before 10th.and during dec. it was worst.for a period of 6 months i was getting digit on 5th or 6th then it was delivered by bluedart.then whatsoever happened they changed the courier service.Digit should consider changing to good courier service like AFL , BLUEDART etc..

First of you change the courier service . last month (december) i received the mag on 16 of the month .That is not month issue .The month does'nt start on 15 . MAG should be delivered at most before 10 of the month . it was not just last month but it is allways the same problem .:mad:

secondly pls give the movie trailers of bollywood movies also . and if it is hollywood movies or bollywood movies pls give it before the movie releases not after the movies is released .:mad:

The new interface is good but info about the app should be displayed while selected . so if it is new software or a user is a newbye . so we get the idea that what does the app do . and what are it's features

SUBSCRIPTION OFFER -- NOT SATISFACTORY

I recently renewed my subscription for 5 years (ofcourse lured by the DVD Writer) -- after checking with your Subscription dept on the type of DVD Writer (Internal / External).. They were not able to respond clearly & I had to tell them that I have a laptop and whether I would be able to use the DVD Writer externally connecting to my laptop -- I was told I would be able to.

Yesterday I received the package and I find it to be the internal DVD Writer and not the external type....

I'm extremely dissatified with:
#1. Not providing more details on the offer & the free gifts as part of your subscription offers
#2. Your staff not (being able to / providing) proper info to my request.

Now I got to find a way on how I can actually use this drive without having to invest much !!

Any suggestions on how I can put this DVD Writer to use when I have just a laptop would be greatly appreciated.

In past Digit has provided Video tutorial on CD. Now Digit has also gone to DVD, so there is lot of scope for video tutorial.Advantages of video tutorial:

1. It is easier to learn from some minutes of video on 'how to' than written pages.


2. 'DO it your self' section will be easy to do things when Digit teaches by video tutorial.


3, Demand of readers for 'how to' ,'DO it your self' will be satisfied without use of magazine, so in magazine you may conti for other articles or you may like to include some more advertisement !

4. Video tutorial for subject will be shoot out by Digit Team , so no need to get permissions, no need to hectic search & downloading from internet.


5. This way Digit team will proudly have exclusive video tutorial collection in long run. Days are coming of broadband internet connection in India & elsewhere ,video (for education)transfer on internet will may become new business.

well now i have a problem and that is all my magazines which i had subscribed to are in my Cousin's name and he receives them all in India...
and so i dont get a chance to have a look at them...

I know that this should not be posted here. rather in the digit patron section but that thread was closed.
I have seen people mentioning the patron gifts like Munnabhai dvd, game cds or f16 etc., But I dont see them when I "view all gifts" in digit patron. I see only 13 gifts. why is it so? Does the contents vary time to time.. or do they vary according to the subscription plan you have? please inform me. If this post is moved somewhere, please let me know where. Sorry for the trouble..

My sincere request to admins/Mods of forum to make necessary changes so that RSS FEEDS FROM THIS FORUM CARRY MORE THAN JUST THE TOPIC NAME .... it would be really welcome and desired if it could carry the post also under the topic.... short topic names hardly convey anything. you have to add only what is recent inventions in the technologies,so it benefits us.

Most tutorials, articles, cd/dvd content are windows based. I agree that there a more no. of windows users than linux. But if you have some linux content, then it would be better. I have seen only one fastrack on linux and one on Open-Source. At least 5-10% of mag shud contain linux related content. :)

The softwares given on the Digit CD/DVDs should clearly be illustrated in the CD/DVDs itself.I mean the information given by its side are not sufficient enough for beginners. It should clearly state that how much disk space it would take,CPU usage(Celestia took charge of my CPU instead),installation guides specially for Linux distros(screenshot views)
This will help greatly.

I know i already posted this elsewhere in the forum but please pay attention to the compatibility issue, the digit dvd seems to present itself as a nuisance lately. Why? Because the dual layer dvd given with pc world and all works too well with my sony dvd drive and i don't think its worth screwing your customers up. Now i've run a check of the dvd on my friends laptop and it works well also i run the lens cleaning cd that i have but that dvd must be dumb! I mean if the dual layer dvd given with pc world works fine on my pc than why is digit dvd not?

I'm reading Digit for almost 3 years contenuously. The mag is great, nothing to tell about that. I only requesting you to provide some expert tips & tricks on multimedia softwares (photoshop, corel, illustrator, 3D etc.) dedicated to the supplimentary book u provide with the mag.
I'm a graphic designer working in PricewaterhouseCoopers Pvt. Ltd., kolkata, i have some ideas about the way it can be provided.

I dont know where to post this but this was the best place I could find it.... I just hope someone from THE DIGIT TEAM atleast reads this :

First of all I've been a customer of DIGIT all along right from it was coined as DIGIT till this August 2007.... And even when it was being called as CHIP I was a subscriber too.... So starting from around 1999 I believe.....

I frequently face these problems :

My DIGIT Magazine arrives to my home only after the 15th of the month most of the times..... That too half the time with damaged media for which I usually send mails and get the replacements by month end....

Second of all it really frustrates me before I get any reply for the mails i send.... Only if I send 3 mails minimum, I get a reply and that too not a proper one....

I had sent this query as well to the DIGIT TEAM as well and as usual no reply for that either.... So I've decided not to re-subscribe for the magazine once and for all....

I dont know why the customer service has become so bad now.... Around 2 yrs back and all it was quite good.... But not anymore is it ??

We have a OpenSource forum for GNU/Linux exclusive topics. Why can't we have a Microsoft Forum for microsoft/windows related topics? Or can we ask people to post linux problems in software troubleshooting itself? I find it confusing when some problems are posted in the OSS section and others in the QnA or Software troubleshooting section. So if there is a seperate microsoft section, we can rest assured that all M$ Window$ relatred problems are posted there.

Also, it will be a good idea for threads in OSS section to also have links in other sections, where the same topics can be fit. This way, the usability of the forums will be increased.

I am not sure if someone has suggested this before or not..

I recently bought a mobo, proc and RAM from nehru place based on the recommendations of digit..and it took me weeks to locate authorised dealers for some of the products u recommended like VIP (smps and cabinet), kingston/transcend/corsair ram. :(
The reason that I was looking for authorised dealers was because I feel that lots of products available in nhru plc are FAKE..(this was confirmed by some of the authorised distributors of kinsgston and transcend RAM :o ) .

Here is my two cents:

Please concider giving all valid/proved/good tips, guides, tutorials, etc posted on this forum in an eBook on the magazine. This way, even those without internet can benifit from this forum.

And make it a point to have atleast two shootouts per month.

Offering for sale a special issue with nothing but shootouts of the entire year on december is another good idea that can be implemented. Atleast the special issue can be an eBook with only pages of digit mag that have shootouts. This will become handy for all those too lazy to search through the entire digit archieve.

The above two needn't be only ebooks, but to save costs, epaper IS a realistic option.

April DVD worked for very few people. I think DIGIT people very well know before hand that DVDs are faulty but they choose to deliver these avoiding cost & schedule overrun. Shame on DIGIT.

the major reason i see of the dvd's not working is the plastic case..mostly the cd's(and dvd's too) are usually displaced of their holders(leads to scratching)..so it would be better to use the simple paper and plastic covers..
i havent actually had problems with the dvd's usually (only twice in the last 20 or so issues..)
and i saw a post from another person regarding the linux distros..saying that most of the people reading used windows and only 2 distros should be given annually..PLEASE do not take this suggestion..
evrything else paper quality,ads etc..are fine with me..fasttrack too rocks...no need to improve the paper quality..its meant to read..and it server the purpose quite well..

Hello Friends,
I think my and some active members views about digit magazine has made many many tech hunger members to rethink about buying this months special edition. Its true and there r many facts to support this thinking about think-digit.
1. This months edition is late. I am not sure when will it reach in hills of Uttarakhand. So to satisfy our hunger we had to buy the Chip.
2. This special edition is not worth Rs.200.00 (Dvd seems useless). Only the magazine content seems appealing(but I am not sure). While this month's chip is at Rs. 150 mark. With 3 useful DVD's and a great magazine content.
3. Digit's content/page ratio is much lower then chip.
4. Chip's cost content/page is much less.
5. Chip is now available in my city.

So I had to make a hard decision to leave out this months digit edition or not and buy the Chip.

And buy the graphic card comparison edition or the digital camera edition and then buy the December/2008 edition and then there I can read the missed digit issues.

If any one bought the magazine and finished reading it please Inform how is the magazine content. Thats to quickly.

Don't You all think that this useless, late "latif", staff of Digit should be fired.

There is a thought in my mind. I had seen that most of you ask the team digit to increase the paper quality of the magazine and fast track.and many of you criticize them also. But I think that this is not fare.

1. We should look at the quality of matter they provide not the paper.

2. By decreasing the quality of paper they can increase the page nos. in magazine/fast track.(Decrease in paper quality should result in increase of the page no. in magazine/fast track.)

3. Decrease in quality may help them to control the price of magazine. (But this is not the case with them.) Decrease the paper quality and decrease the magazine price also specially your anniversary issues because their price don't justify the content of the magazine.

now a days the case has become thinner but its unable to hold the cds and dvds and they get scratched. Please make better case or keep them in some plastic cover like other tech mags do.

1.If possible pls try to reduce the ads in the website. Ads in the mag are perfect as it is related to the contents. I have no issues with the ads in the mag. However the ads in the website is just too much. I do not how but when my younger brother clicked on one of the ad link u posted it was connected to a pronographic site. I was really amused by this. Couldnt find feedback thread for August issue so i am putting my gripe here.
The openSUSE 11 DVD is again not working. During the stage of installation it says some packages have not instlled properly (at 68%)and the setup quits. I tried again and the same thing happens ( i chose KDE 4). Plz do something as it seems Digit botches up the bootable dvd all the time.

Things to better;
1. DVD Case. I mean the DVDs dont stay in place; but I like it more than plastic or paper. I hear that the issue is somewhat resolved in August 2008 DIGIT?

2. The MAG is getting thinner; maybe because thinner paper is being used, maybe pages are reduced.

3. Agent 001 feels lousy nowadays; dunno why? Maybe iTs me who's gettinf fed up?

4. I have always like the Fastrack; Id actually hate the kind of fast tracks provided in anniversary issue. I want the same plain vanilla Fast Track. It was a perfect guide-book. The fast Track shouldnt be like pages from the magazine. Its the best as t is/was. The small handbook. I dont care paper quality till the its content rich. :D

Common people; Digit cant always provide the best at the lowest prices. :!: I think its struggling to keep the price same; thats why more ads and lower quality is there. Its not that its good but then again; ts permissible. Though I would never like DIGIT to cut down on content. IF there's enough content; I dont mind ads at all.

I am a digit subscribe But i am angry with your magazine. I love digit as a magazine but your delivery system sucks. You may have been telling whole world that you are number one but what about your service? i never get my magazine before 12th most of the time i get my copy around 15 what is this i am receiving my copy of digit after past half month that too after i have paid money for that copy in advance to you since i am a scribed. all other magazine treat there subscriber as kings but you treat them as they are dirt, i don't want to treated as a king but at least threat that me like that i exist. when i receives my copy of digit that late i feel like that i am not buying digit instead i feel like a beggar who is getting some leftover food & i am getting leftover copy of magazine that copy which is published more than the demand on the magazine by mistake & you are giving it to me free & pls don't say that sometimes magazine takes time to reach because i am digit subscribe for about last 3 years & only once i have received my copy on time on fifth.

i know i may have written here too harsh but this is my anger which is inside me for months.

Firstly i love digit more than any mag in the whole world.
I used to buy with my pocket money each issue of urs but now i am going to subscribe for 2 yrs. As Digi rocks.
Secondly in many of ur Dvd's i found out u have included full movies which are mostly useless instead if u cud provide us with tutorials of how to use few softs,like photoshop,ppt,etc..
In last years december issue u had given the prices of the components of computers for HTPC,Gaming,etc. Please do it once more as the prices have receeded further and also a small review on everything like reviewing 5 of each component.
If u ppl cud do this i wud get a fair idea of upgrading my pc.

The preview + feedback thread is still not made because they know that by reading the reviews of their lost magazine people will look somewhere else.
Other magazines like chip, PC word has updated their website on 1st of OCT. But digitians are sleeping. these lazy fellows. Jasubhai knows how to tame these irresponsible persons. But now there is no Jasubhai.

You guys need to review the latest gfx cards and the latest proccys/mobos as very new products have been released in these markets. Also, why not make a Digit Magazine Archive software? The software archive is a really useful tool to search for content on the disk. But if we need to read a particular article from the previous issues, we have to search the mags for it. So why not create a software to search for mag articles?

Could not find a better place to post the following(actually it seems, none exists):

I wanted to get my mailing address changed, so I mailed help@thinkdigit[dot]com, waayyyyy back in August. But,it seems they still havent read that mail, nor the one that I sent in September, nor the one I sent in October. Neither have they responded to any of the mails, nor contacted me using the information I gave through the mailing address change form on this website.

Why does it seem that the customer service has worsened? Once I had sent a mail requesting replacement of damaged discs, back somewhere in Jan or Feb, I got a prompt reply the next day that my mail had reached and was under process. Not any longer.

If some admin is reading this, I want some answers. While you are at it, someone tell me why are you no longer printing the names and numbers of local representatives in metro cities.

And yeah, until some time back, I used to receive mail that the magazines had been dispatched and should reach in a few days. Not any longer?

Please, can someone look into this?

I too got the magazine yesterday but there is nothing so rocking. DVD material is good.
Magazine is ok. Not worse Not best. Avg content.
But For 200 Rs buy magazine who really needs all that content. And want to learn HTML, CSS, Flash.

I would strongly advice against it. 64bit has shown no REAL improvements over 32bit as far as linux is concerned, except in multimedia related stuff. Till then, i686 will do.

And unlike windows, 32bit Linux indeed DOES support over 4GB RAM. It supports upto 16GB RAM. So please find 100 people with over 16GB RAM who buy digit and then I can agree its worth considering offering 64bit distros just for the sake of ram atleast once an year.

And if you want PROPER 64bit distros, you need to use something good like Gentoo or Arch. Ubuntu64 is actually often slower than Ubuntu32. And SuSE/Ubuntu64/32 loose to Arch686 any day.

Digit want to make some chages come back on right track :rolleyes:

I am regular of the Digit since 2004 the digit not mating the customer expectation in this year. Digit is actually practice to the tech geek first choice & it also a best magazine in the technology but at this time making money otherwise to innovation and reduce heritage Goodwill in the Technology peak. But the expectation had not fulfilled by the Digit. At this time new firm which acquire digit making profit rather than enhance the knowledge and extra gain from other magazine? There are some important facts cast a glance I am mentioned some acknowledgment facts after seeing in the full year magazine of 2008 and CD&DVD are:rolleyes::

1. There is only one special edition in the last year. But this year really pay more money pay to the digit. Can you explain why the 4 Special Edition in this year? This is only used as the profit making because the magazine nothing got special at all until Pay Rs.200 is such really high price.

2. Poor Packing in the August and November Issue. I would like to CD & DVD is not working properly and got scratch in the polythene. The CD case is really protective from damage and good collection for customer except the loose packing. The old packing is really good.

3. After the anniversary edition most digit customer expected that the next issue comes with 2 Dual-layer DVD. But its really not fulfill the expectation at least the one Single-layer DVD and one Dual-layer DVD. The new year really hopeful do in this matter.

4. Why you stop the "Take a Crack"? This is the blood of the magazine and started from 2004. The magazine not for only students But the professional is also read. Would you maintain the boundaries and some latest tech?

5. Repeating Many times of previous year Mazzini & fast track in the pdf format.

6. DVD & CD contents also less day by day and many freeware not give the new software & essentional.

7. Reduce the pages in this year magazines and increase ads or advertisements.

When are we getting the AJAX functionality back in the forum? It has been turned off since 6 months now. For people like me who are using Dial-up, it is really a pain in the a$$ when we see the page loading for editing our post.
