Nothing good on CD this time. I dont know why digit packs the CD with so many softwares and games. Instead only good software and games should be given, even if the total number becomes very small. Some other magazines are already doing that. Also OpenSuSe 10 has been given by that magazine.

2 initial positives I find as soon as I get the magazine
1. I got it on 2nd Feb. :o Thats damn fast considering Digit's earlier standards
Keep up this good work

2. Digit S/w archive.. atleast they have started it. but needs to be improved a lot.

@sujith, why did u say its better than DIGIT? i think its an integral part of DIGIT itself

fnatic@play
05-02-2006, 10:29 AM
Err.. i dunno if this has to be posted here...
but ..

the mouse reviews -

g5 gets 8.25 in the features category compared to the g7 gettin 16.625... how come? .. jus cuz the g5 is wired and hte other uses bluetooth? it cant be compared in tat sense. two totally different ways of communication.

and in the case o these 2 mice.. the wired n bluetooth version provide no difference in performace.. err.. should i say that the g5 actually performs better than the g7. and with the customisation tat can be done with the g5 , it feels more closer.. u know.. and the g7 has a batter pack instead. plus it costs around 2 grand more.

i use a g5 btw. and the control, the grip, the feel,... its all way above any other mice i've used. ANY. and so even puttin 4.25 for the g5 and 4 for , say, the microsoft or even the mx1000 isnt really a good comparison, imho.

QwertyManiac
10-02-2006, 01:58 PM
yuck.. whats a maxim ad doing in digit ? that too out-of-nowhere-in-the-middle of Q&A ? :p

Fast track cover looks odd.. strange i havent felt like touching it till now.. dont know whats inside so cant comment :p

book articles are decent but its getting all linked up.. that is too much of refferings to previous articles.. if i am right then digit has given up lots and lots of info jus relatin to paper displays itself.. found it mentioned in several issues...

lots of typos again too heh, i dont want a warn here so not writin, mebbe on my blog later... (Typo Killer)

and for the comparision charts, when u have a y/n type answer why the hell do they put 2 "x"s there ? it means that its neither no nor yes.. strange...

the last page is ironic, it comes next to the page where young readers send thier mail in and then the next page is a bit adulterated heh...

ads look better coloured sometimes than the mag.. heh tho I have never read them fully.. tear them out to reduce weight and increase kabbadi wala amount

Oh, I hope i havent spoken somethin offensive :( aahh have to run else i will go over a moon, oops sorry, over a warning

First of all, thanks a lot to the Digit developers to take the pain of developing the Digit Archive software for us. Nodoubt it is going to be of great help.

Digit Archive is wroking pretty good except that it's database doesn't seem to have anything prior to Jan 2006.

I would recommend the Digit developers to add up details of atleast last six months or so. Another feature that can be added is to browse the content of a particular months CD or DVD through this software.

cybermanas
11-02-2006, 08:56 PM
The Digit people better improve the quality of The Fast Track book or it is as good as not providing it.

munim2020
12-02-2006, 04:21 AM
i don't see why you need to waste so much space for reviewing something as lame as input devices! rest of the mag was a good though. i esp liked the articles on encryption and security(pg 143). another part which i DIDn't like was the article on mind mapping. why is it that sometimes the cd or dvd fails to read properly(some folders don't get read) and takes very long to load(or even lock up the computer).. is it my drive or the cds?

i agree with you guys.. fast track really needs to improve.

i think seriously the cd contents aren't always up to date and moreso not for common people like me..
Dunno, why they keep getting all those developer's stuff all the time..
Also my main purpose of buying digit is magazine content..
Raabo can we have magazine only lite version for about 40 Rs..
By latest i don't mean software released even 3 weeks before..

I think the shootouts are getting boring. They can bring out a shootout of the processors. Or may be between the latest SLI cards. Or sound cards. Or one mega cellphone review(like the november 2004 one)

Ankur Gupta
14-02-2006, 03:56 PM
O yes cellphone shootout should be included in the nxt mag if possible n if not thn in april issue.its been a long time since last one came out and wen so many of u r buying us it really helps us.hope digit guys r reading this :)

It's so sad to see people crib about stupid things.
Digit rocks, and here's why:
1. Fast Track is very good for the majority of PC users who are not (or do not falsely claim to be) "experts"
2. The DVD and CD contents ROCK! A billion times better than the "other" magazines you people keep harping about
3. The magazine has some really good articles, and the writing styles are so much better than the other bland and boring technology mags out there.

People on this forum love to niggle about small things. QWERTYwhatever... how can you talk about typoes when you can't seem to type straight yourself.

PS: I loved the mouse and keyboard reviews, and digit is right, we hardly ever pay attention when buying these things...perhaps that's why my wrist hurts as I type this out :)

Whew . ... Finally my broadband is restored ... Okay I bought this month's Digit after Mumbai Meet 3 .. I must say the magazine contents rocked ....

Most articles by Nimish were great .. The Overbrain become more technical though (my cousin didnt read it :p .. He said it was boring) .. I liked the cryptography one more .. :D ..

1 thing I missed ... There was no CES coverage ... And those Maxim ads .. eww .. I havent checked the DVD and Cd as yet .. so dunno whats in them ...

I liked the article “Create your own e-book. The idea of sharing your story with friends and family without the bother of getting it printed like a normal book is very appealing for me.

In this regard I have an analogy:

I go to a shop and buy a book. I bring it home and read it, then I give it to my brother to read, after he’s done he passes it on to my father and mother etc. I can also share that book with my friends. In this way one book has been read by many people.

When I buy an e-book and share it with a few friends why is it called piracy? Why does one person have to buy one e-book…does it make any sense for every family member to purchase his own copy?

Piracy in printed books means someone illegaly making copies and selling them and this should also apply to e-books. I ask this question because I want to get a e-book from the net but can’t pay for it since I don’t have a credit card. If I ask around and my friends have already bought a copy, why can’t they just send it to me by e-mail? It is not piracy since that friend is not selling the e-book to me…is it?

Mr. Graduate,

There is one problem with your analogy:

When you buy a book in the real world, you can share it with your family, and it would be ridiculous for every family member to purchase multiple copies of the same book.

In the digital world it is not one e-book per person...rather it is one digital product PER COMPUTER. So you buy the e-book and put it on your computer and other family members can read it on that machine. If you pass it around by e-mail or cd to another computer that is piracy.

What particuar e-book are you keen on buying?

I understand your point Mr. Wannabe :P

BTW you're in Udhampur? Check your PM.

I actually wanted this book:

http://www.iuniverse.com/bookstore/book_detail.asp?isbn=0-595-76754-0

To get it free I guess I should request DIGIT to carry this e-book in their CD for March.

Hi,

This is really wierd, I just put the Digit CD (not the DVD, but the CD) and it seems to have the contents of PC Quest Feb 2006!!! :(

After that happened I got on the net to see if anyone else has the same issue but so far I haven't found any clues.

Any idea on how the contents of PC Quest CD landed inside the Digit CD???

FYI: I'm sure the CD is the Digit CD, the print on the CD is says its the Digit Feb 2006, only the content inside the disc are of PC Quest.
