I am new to this site and have no idea about the latest in computer hardware. I bought a comp last in 2000 (Celeron 466 , 64 Mb Ram) and haven't upgraded since then. Even XP is too slow on this comp. Plan to buy a new comp. I want advice on the following:
1) Processor: AMD 64 bit or Pentium HT
2) Motherboard: with good upgrade capability. Last motherboard was a mistake, didn't have an AGP slot! Should I go for one with an AGP slot (is this obsolete now??). Heard there is PCI express.
3) Graphics card within 5k - will this graphics card run F.E.A.R ?
4) What is the standard cabinet most people go for nowadays?
5) Hard Disk: Planning on 120 GB. Should i go for SATA? suggest a brand also.
6) A suitabel DVD writer.

I felt HT performed better but heard my friend say '64 bit is an ocean when compared to 32 bit' :) So is 64 bit the future?
I can put off the graphics card for later but most importantly suggest a motherboard which will support future graphics cards.

welcome to the forum, buddy dont mind but from nxt time better search b4 posting as there r many thread goin on related to updrade and all.
1-Go for AMD64 any day better than Intel
2-no i dont think a card less than 5k can handle F.E.A.R.not even 6600GT which costs around 9k is able to handle this game properly in high settings.
3-cabinet is up to u but dont forget to get atleast 400w psu.
4-go for hitachi sata2 HDD,price diff between sata and sata2 is very marginal.
5-Sony or Benq DVD-RW.
6-Asus A8NE or MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum mobo with pcie(but both the mobo dont hav onboard graphics).
