Dear Readers,

We have received a few complaints about the Terminator 2 / Discovery Kids' Ultimate Guide To The Human Body DVD. The problem that readers seem to be facing is that of a missing DVD codec, which is generally installed along with DVD Movie Player Software.

Windows Media Player 10 does not include DVD Codecs by default, and your system will need to have some other DVD Movie Player software installed as well. When you buy a DVD-ROM / Combo / DVD-Writer drive, you are supposed to get a software DVD player along with it. This is generally located in the CD or DVD that contains the drivers and additional software (CD/DVD burning software) for your drive. The most common DVD Movie applications that are bundled with DVD drives are PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc.

To check whether you have a DVD decoder installed on your system, follow these steps:

Click on Start > Run, type “DVDUPGRD /DETECT” (without the quotes) and press [Enter]
A box will pop up. This box will contain information of the DVD decoders installed on your computer.
If the box looks like any of the images below, then you have a DVD Decoder installed, and should be able to view the DVD in any media player.

However, if the box that pops up after step 2 looks like the one shown below, you do not have a DVD Decoder installed and will need to find the CD that came with your DVD-ROM / DVD-Writer / Combo drive and install the DVD Movie Player Software contained therein.

If you did not get a software CD / DVD with your DVD drive, please contact your system assembler or vendor and demand the same. Every DVD drive is bundled with DVD Movie software, and you are entitled to get it too.

If for some reason you cannot get the DVD Movie Player software from anywhere, you will need to follow the steps below:


Put the Digit December 2005 CD into your drive, and browse to the Digital Tools > Essentials section.
Locate Kazaa Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.40 and click on the “Install” button. If you are browsing the CD through Windows Explorer, go to the Digital_Tools > Essentials folder and double-click on the file “klmcodec140.exe”.
Click “Next” thrice until you reach the “Select Components” screen. You should see a list of the components, codecs and players that will be installed by Kazaa Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.40.

Under the “DirectShow video filters” category tick the "Cyberlink DVD Decoder" option and also the "MPEG-2" option. Select the "CyberLink(video)" sub-option under the MPEG-2 header.
Click “Next” and complete the installation. Restart the computer if asked to do so.
Now insert the Movie DVD into your drive and you should be able to watch the movie.


We realize that the steps mentioned above can be time consuming and irritating, and hope that our readers understand that these steps are necessary in order to be able to watch ANY movie DVD on the PC, not just the Terminator 2 - Discovery DVD provided with the Digit December issue.

Those readers who have installed all the software that came with their DVD drive will not face any problems with movie DVDs.

PS: I hope that clears up a lot of unnecessary confusion that has been caused by what is, for many, a first time experience with a movie DVD!

I would also like to add that the very first thing people need to do is ensure that they have a DVD drive, as we found a lot of people were trying to run the DVD on a CD drive, thinking that this was just like the Ice Age VCD that we had provided in a previous issue. To confirm:

The Terminator 2 / Discovery Kids DVD will ONLY run on a DVD movie player or on a PC DVD drive.

This time CD/DVD contents are really worth the 200 Bucks but why are you giving a game that is about 6 years old, really useless. Also the game is not so good. It would have been better if you had given an EA game maybe old version of NFS. Last time also in the ANNIVERSARY issue there was MIDTOWN MADNESS 2 on the cover but an old version was given. I wonder whether MICROSOFT has picked DIGIT as the clearing agent to clear all old stuff!!

Raaabo, don't you think that the old subscribers always deserve more than newone & news stand buyers???? There is also no difference between subscription offer for new & Renewal. Before november, renewal of subscription always gets 1,2,3, or 4 issues more for 1,2,3 or 5 years subscriptions respectively. Now, there are no benefits to renew mag.

First of all Digit is Rs.125/- and not Rs.100/-.

Now for the Rs.50/- issue

Digit December mega issue is priced at Rs.200/- because they are offering the Terminator 2 - Judgement Day DVD and Motocross Madness CD Free with the same. Now Digit had asked the subscribers to pay Rs.50/- extra if they wanted the Extra DVD + CD and there was a big hungama regarding the same. This is the second thread regarding the Preview and Feedback. The eariler thread was removed.....

The movie DVD is a dual-layer DVD and should work provided:

1. You have a compatible DVD-ROM drive
2. You have installed the DVD-Movie player software that came with your DVD-ROM drive (eg: PowerDVD, Windows Media Player 10, etc.)

There is no spyware in the Motocross Madness CD. We've checked!

I got my december issue from newsstand yesterday and checked everything today. There is no DVD case for the newsstand buyers too this time. I really feel digit should rethink the same. Most probably this time since newsstand buyers were gonna get all these dvd+cd, a single DVD case wont be spacious to accomodate them. Moreover the movie DVD works, but its kinda strage sometimes it justs hangs the system. Checked it in the Dvd player too, works as it should. All those who face the problem of the *faulty* movie dvd, just wait for a while after popping in the T2 dvd.

@ Deadman : its a dual layer dvd. Size of the DVD is some 7 gigs. If you are unaware of what a DL DVD is, do a define: xyz on google before posting it on the forums. It misleads people.

All dvd-roms read both SL and DL DVDs. So the DVD should work in all dvd drives.

Please find out what a dual-layer DVD is first before posting. Also refer to my first post that started this thread, it has been edited to explain why some of you have problems with the Movie DVD.

The fault does not lie with Digit in most cases. Sure there might be a couple of spoilt DVDs (very rare) out there, but they must have been damaged in transit or transportation—these DVDs might be bent out of heat or have markings on the data face and are quite easy to spot.

For most people however, the DVD will work fine provided you follow the instructions given in the first post in this thread. If you have a damaged DVD, data or movie, we are happy to replace it ASAP, all you have to do is write to help@jasubhai.com to get instructions.

Many people do not load movie DVD software and thus have no DVD decoders installed, which is why they cannot view movie DVDs. You will not be able to watch ANY movie DVD unless you follow the procedures mentioned at the beginning of this thread.

The Digit DVD is a Data DVD and not a movie DVD, so a few of you might find the Digit DVD functioning and the Movie DVD not working and think that it is corrupted. This isn't so.

The person who got 2 movie DVDs and no Digit DVD should write in to help@jasubhai.com and ask for directions to solve his problem. I am sure they will dispatch it immediately. The mixup might have happened while packing.

The reason I mentioned dual-layer was because people might have very very old DVD-ROM drives that might not recognise dual-layer DVDs. However, since all DVD-ROMs available for over the past 2 years support dual-layer discs, this is a problem that you might face if your drive is, say, over 3 years old.

I made a mistake in a previous post: I mentioned Windows Media Player 10 because I thought it installed a DVD decoder. I was wrong. WMP does not bundle any DVD decoders and thus those without DVD movie player software will get an error message that says something to that effect when trying to use WMP10 to play the DVD.

1. I believe Digit is loosing its Honesty & sincerity now that it has become an eight year old mag. It has lost its innocence & has become street smart & cunning. It could be also due to Maulik coming on board. Readers shoudl ponder & decide due to following :-

a. when I subscriber to Digit, Digit & self are under contract. Digit is commited to deliver to my address Digit magzine similar to news-stand copy. However Digit always arrives late, in a packaging different than news-stand copy & now I am also being asked to pay for Freebies separately. This is complete violation of the subscriber agreement which any decent magzine understands.

b. If this is an indication of things to come, it is better to SHUN DIgit & move to another technology mag. There is no dearth of them & it is the readers who take the magzine to pinnacle of success & also cause it to die. Digit's end is coming. I was its first subscriber when it was launched in 1997 & it is sad to see it dying under a money-hungry Maulik who has already pocketed teh subscription money, is getting cheap funding due to us & now is asking us to pay for what is rightfully ours - under ontract.

c. Digit should immediately send the Freebies to all its subscribers with an aoplogy, Maulik shoudl be kicked out for good with a RED REAR END.

d. If it doiesn't happen, lets team-up & go to Consumer court, send copy of letters to all other rival mags & ensure that no more innocent readers are trapped by a cunning mag like Digit.

Yes, and the mag price was raised from Rs 100 to Rs 125, but subscribers who paid Rs 66 were not asked to pay more. So you are protected from inflation, just as the letter says.

I have no comments to offer about the contents of the DVD, CD or the mag because it has just arrived. But must say one thing.

Asking for extra payment simply SUCKS!! :roll: Digit could have used some other model instead of Sania and used that money to send the DVD, etc to all its subscribers.

Although, as Digit claims, we are covered against inflation (or inflated price :roll: ) we are also paying in advance!! Isn't it? Forget about pittance called interest on that money, but we are ensuring some continued business as well.

First it was the DVD case and now this extra payment. Why are subscribers treated differently from news-stand buyers? I subscribe to a few other mags (tech and non-tech) but have never seen anything like this before. This surely is a FIRST BY DIGIT!! Quite unprecedented :evil:

Some facts and details about Digit magazine :arrow:

1)The paper quality is poor especially of the begining pages.It improves when the buyers guide section comes(as it contains a lot of ads) and also the pages where HP advertisemnt is there are a bit thick.

2)The fast track pages are rough though a bit smoother than its first issue.Though digit had tried to improve the paper quality of fast track last month -the pages of first half of the book were whiter and a bit smoother than rest of the book- but now its back to the same old stuff.Also it saves money by not printing on inside of the main cover as in previous issues.The preview of next month is also missing in the book.

3)The DVD and CD are again in simple seal covers and it will be a big mess if we have to find a software in later months.

4)Also i received my copy on the 7th as compared to 2-3 in previous few months.

So the conclusion inspite of price hike digit is not being able to improve its service quality :evil:

I am really feeling sad for the poor subscribers who had already paid money in advance for the magazine and now asking extra money.

Some days before I even thought of subscribing to DIGIT but now let me wait for subscriber opinions in the coming days and I will do accoring to that.

It is also true that Digit`s paper is of low quality these days.If other magazines of this price range can give good paper why isn`t digit able to give it???

Some days before I even thought of subscribing to DIGIT but now let me wait for subscriber opinions in the coming days and I will do accoring to that.

Thats totally untrue. It is of lot of help if you are new in computer world. Even if the paper quality of the fast track book is bad(not even fair, which i dont like :evil: ) it is of lot of help. Most of the books were of help and you should remember that many people get this mag for knowledge and this is what exactly done by DIGIT. No one should say fast track is of no use.

The paper quality of the mag is better in the recent issues. You cant blame it now. The good thing about digit is that they are giving a book instead of a CD. Mag is the main component not he DVD and the CD.

First of all the Fastrack is of use for only for some reference for someday and not for regular use.

Everybody here knows that digit is charging for that small book RS 25.It is a total waste of money for those who know about computer-software/hardware nicely.

I think FastTrack section should be added in the magazine for about 1 page that will do and also make the pirce back to Rs 100.

OK INFLATION IS ON THE RISE ONLY FOR DIGIT OR WHAT?EVEN OTHER MAGAZINES ARE GIVING AWAY SPECIAL ISSUES TO THEIR SUBSCRIBER AT NO EXTRA COST.THAT TOO MUCH CHEAPER THAN DIGIT.

3)Subscriber got free gifts with their subscription.

I NEVER GOT A FREE GIFT.AND NO IS MAD HERE TO SUBSCRIBE TO MAGAZINE FOR FREE GIFTS.

Publisher also mentioned that we subcriber get our copy at home delivered and others have to go to newsstand to purchase it.
It looks like they think subscribers are all handicapped and never leave their homes.
What I feel is many of the subscribers would be going to offices and school/colleges and they an pick their copy on the way so Digit is not doing any favour on us by delivering the copy at our place.
Also they proudly send emails to their subscribers(atleast I recieved one) stating that I will recieve my copy of digit on 8th of the month and not on 1st.Even the mail was sent on 4th December i.e after coming to know that magazine would be late this month.

they also mentioned that the printing cost has rised and blah blah..... to justif the price tag of Rs.200/- for newsstand buyer and Rs.50/- extra for subscribers,
but tell me why not other publications and magazines are going the way digit has opted to.
Other magazine(especially CHIP) are able to provide 2Cd's and a DVD every month that too at Rs.100/- and they telling us this kind of stories like we are dumb.

Nor Raabo nor the Publisher Mr. M Jasubhai has bothered to clarify their stand.

I dont want these free gifts they are giving but I oppose the the price tag of Rs.50/- extra for the subscriber.

When we subcribed their was no clause as such that we will have to pay extra for some special gifts.

Tomorrow Digit might say that even if subscribers want their magazines they should pay Rs.50/- extra every month and will nicely send them a email or letter justifying their stand.
This is not what we expected from a reputed publication house and also they are keeping their mouth shut and not even bothering to reply.

Let me give a suggestion to digit to reduce the cost of the magazine.

Stop printing the photos of the models every month and use some cool visualisation on the front cover this way you can save a good amount of money.

Also this will help you to shield yourself from the inflation(as claimed by the Publisher in his letter to subscribers).

This is not we expect from digit.

Also this month magazine contains around 213 pages and around 90 pages of ads(full page ads).this does not include the ads given on the side scrolls of the pages.

so the ratio of content to ads is only around 50%i.e a bit above it,and they are saying that its very difficult to meet ends for the subscribers.

From what little business sense I have i think its very important to keep your promise to your customers(here the subscribers) and they should not be asked for extra money to get the goodies.

Looks like being number one for so many years Sucess has gone into their head and they think that every move they make will be supported by the subscribers.
It is not like what they think and I am sure no existing subscribers will ever want to subscribe to Digit again.

Well, I was planning to subscribe Digit from the beginning of next year.. But after all the things that have happened, I have indefinitely postponed my decision.. I'll consider subscribing only after JDM manages to establish trust in my heart by acting in some way..Till then I'll be a happy newsstand reader..And I think many people like me would have made similar decisions..

first of all, if 25 bucks are added for the fast track, i think giving a soft copy every month wud provide to be the best of both the worlds.

secondly, noone can manage to give out new games for free. But some game other than Motocross Madness wud have done good. AOE - II The Conquerors wud have been the better choice.

The jewel case does more bad than good. It takes more space. DVDs and CDs get scratches quite easily. I think that cushioned plastic covers can do much better.

The price tag should be brought down to 100/- as competitors like Chip and PCQuest give at 100/-

Chip provides two cds and 1 dvd for 100/-, so 1 cd, 1 dvd can go well.

The filenames shud be more descriptive.

I wish I was a subscriber so that I can easily avoid the T2 DVD - remarkably boring film, seen many times in HBO, Star Movies etc.
Now, since I have to pay 200 and buy everything I need to sell the T2 DVD to someone else. Dont know whether someone buy it or not.
If I get 50Rs for that I will sell it! ( I dont matter that string named 'Not for Resale') :!:
Anyway, I cant live without reading Digit. And also the DVD/CD.

I hope Digit will regain the LOST reputation among the subscribers by giving 2 DVDs from Feb or Mar onwards.



And I humbly ask all subscribers to forgive them. We are Human beings and it is the capability to forget and forgive is one of the factor that make us different from Animals. So we must try to forgive them, and ask for a solution for the future, which is good for both side. Going for Lawsuit and such things are not for good, this is the first time they ask the subscribers to pay extra. Nothing more to say, there must be everything clear within a month or two.


About filenames: some work needed from the part of Digit - Rename them all. Many people dont like to read discriptions, just go ahead and find what they want (sometimes me too) and start installation. So to make it fast files needed to be renamed.

at first (having read only half the letter) i was searching frantically for the T2 and discovery dvds, in vain. read the whole letter then :o .... if it is for 50 bucks i don mind paying. tho I saw T2 half a dozen of times, gettin a DVD is nt a bad idea, add to that the discovery DVD (motocross i don need rly). but still, i would like 2 point out that this is not good business... better cut down on goodies than make subscribers pay again, after all those big lectures by means of chinese philosophy and all. the dvds ll be given in cases i hope....

But now they r charging extra for subscirbers. so now thinking of subscribing.

and regarding i think most of the subscribers have got T2 DVD already. so digi guys might have thought that u don't need that.

Thanks to digit for making this movie, human body,etc.. offer optional(though not the Rs.50) cause some of us do have those and would not get any more place to keep them.
Unhappy about the fact that the copies were dispatched very late.

And I humbly ask all subscribers to forgive them. We are Human beings and it is the capability to forget and forgive is one of the factor that make us different from Animals. So we must try to forgive them, and ask for a solution for the future, which is good for both side. Going for Lawsuit and such things are not for good, this is the first time they ask the subscribers to pay extra. Nothing more to say, there must be everything clear within a month or two.

But, yes , there was such collecter's edition kind explanation reply from Raabo which was explained how they still not cover total cost of issue , etc .

In kubuntu linux theres no problem! install the codecs.....and play whatever dvds u want for the rest of ur life! no need to install any drivers etc.!

Hi I am a digit subscriber.I really got problem with my dvd and cd,,since Iam getting these in a normal "polythen cover" that makes its life complicate..just 1 or 2 days the disc gets corrupted with dust and scratch..no place to store the disc..can you pls send those things in a case pls, like the newsstand issue..

IT IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT DIGIT DO NOT LISTEN TO ITS SUBSCRIBERS. I HAVE BEEN WRITING TO THEM FOR YEARS TOGETHER. ANYTHING WRITTEN IN THEIR PRAISE WILL PROMPLTLY BE PUBLISHED AS LETTER OF THE MONTH, WHEREAS ANY CRITICISM FINDS ITS WAY TO DUSTBIN. IF THEY WANT TO BE UNILATERAL, LET THEM STOP THIS FORUM. THIS IS ONLY THE PLACE WHERE SUBSCRIBERS CAN SPIT THEIR ANGER IN WHAT EVER WORDS WHEN THEY FELT LIKE CHEATED.

REGARDING RAABO, I HAVE READ THAT POST OF AF OFFICER, THERE IS NOTHING SO BAD IN THAT. EVERY COMPANY FACES SUCH KIND OF ALLEGATION AGAINST ITS HEAD. RAABO NEED NOT DEFEND MAULIK IN SUCH STRONG WORDS THAT HE CREATES PROBLEM FOR HIMSELF. ANY WAY DIFFERENT PEOPLE PERCEIVE THINGS DIFFERENT WAY BUT NO WAY RAABO CAN BE SGI [SOLOCITOR GENERAL OF INDIA]. I DO NOT ACCEPT HIS VIEW OF DESCRIBING FEW LINE ON LAWS. THERE ARE MANY MORE DEFENCE OFFICERS AND NON-OFFICERS WITH YOUR MAGZINE EITHER SUBSCRIBER OR THROUGH NEWS STAND COPY. RAABO COULD HAVE ANTICIPATED BEFORE MAKING ANY REFERENCE TO DEFENCE OFFICERS THAT ANY THING SAID WOULD BE TAKEN TO THE WHOLE COMMUNITY OF DEFENCE OFFICERS [NAVY, ARMY & AF].

DIGIT HAVE FORCED RS 200 ON NEWS STAND BUYERS, A USELESS MOVIE & A USELESS GAME WHICH NO ONE WANTED. MORE OVER NO OPTION OF BUYING WITHOUT THESE FREE GIFTS FOR NEWS STAND BUYERS. I
