i refilled my catridge twice now

refilling costs about 1/6th price of a new original catridge , so definitely worth a try !!!!!!!!

once the printer contact heads and the encoder strip malfunctions because of refilled cartridges then it will cost lot more than 1/6 :D

i think after 1 refill the quality reduces a bit so u should only refill cartridges once
ive been doin this for years with a few hp deskjets and a compaq ij600 and its all been fine till now
ive not noticed any damage to the printers

instead of refilling cartridges i'd suggest go in for lower cost compatible cartridges...

i agree. among the three, original equipment manufacturer(oem), ink refill or compatible cartridges, the last one is the ideal option. taking into consideration the cost---hands down refill and compatible cartridges trump over the OEM. But most users claim (due to ink refill), that they experience consequences. i think this would be due to the refill (rule of thumb: only refill a cartridge ONCE. More than this and you risk diminishing the quality of the printout and damaging the cartridge and/or the printer itself)
With the HP ink cartridges provided by http://www.uniteddigitalsolutions.com/?page=prcat&cid=77 (aside from HP, they offer variety of compatibles like epson printer cartridges (http://uniteddigitalsolutions.com/?page=prcat&cid=46), tektronix print cartridges
(http://uniteddigitalsolutions.com/index.php?page=prcat&cid=91), pitney bowes ink cartridges (http://uniteddigitalsolutions.com/?page=prcat&cid=87) and minolta toner cartridges (http://uniteddigitalsolutions.com/?page=prcat&cid=83) ), i have yet to experience any of the consequences
With these items raised, my money would be with the compatible cartridges.

I have an Epson C43 SX and have been using generic cartridges for four years now. Mind you not refilled but generic. You can get them from Amkette or Color Plus (yes Color Plus sells black cartridges too :D)
From my experience, refilling always ended up in trouble. With the new HP printer, I never used refilled. There is a great chance of things getting messed up while using refilled, so it is always safe and better to use new.
Infra's suggestion also sounds good, give that a try.
