Re-install WinXP ! ! !

i have a P3 machine ... now am ready 2 upgrade it 2 P4 ... i wont b changing my HDD as rest everything is ...


my hardware vendor tells me that u need 2 re-install WIN XP for this P4 machine ...


is it really true, as i have my imp docs & personal data on my HDD ???

I believe you will need to do a repair install of XP. This happens for Win2k also... With repair install, you should be able to get WinXP with your old programs working. However, I would strongly advise that you backup data before trying this.

why do u need to change stuff on the hard disk ,if so i would really luv to know why ???

moreover i carry my hard disk all my friends' place , ok they all p4 but with diff clock speeds ....

maybe architechture matters (i dont know exactly)

Yes you will have to repair install XP when you use the new motherboard

If you are upgarding your motherboard yes you need to repair installetion but if you are upgrading only proccesor I dont think you need to reinstall.

Why r u so worring about it?

First of all U'll not need to reinstall or repair ur windows.

But in case if it doesnt boot or give ne error after changing the proccessor, u can simply repair the windows using Setup CD :D

So simply change the proccy and ENJOY!!!

Hey all doods u hafta repair Windows XP coz the Bios is changing and so r the core chipsets and all so u hafta repair xp it will copy all the reqiured dlls newly frm the win xp cd and ur machine will be up and running fine. I have read it in my MCSE book for win xp.
